Mediation and Sustainable Conflict Resolution Research Laboratory
MRU Mediation and Sustainable Dispute Laboratory unite more than 10 experts in the application of mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods. The laboratory unites specialists from different fields and different experiences, genders and ages, who are motivated to develop the application of mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods in Lithuania. A large part of the members are practicing mediators, providing their services to the persons arguing in various categories of disputes. Several mediators are experienced international dispute resolution specialists (MIKK) and practice not only in Lithuania, but also in other countries. Two members of the Laboratory have CEDR mediator accreditation.
The uniqueness of the laboratory is the interdisciplinarity of the ongoing research and other activities. Taking into account the nature of mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods – the desire to peacefully resolve the conflict – the laboratory brings together lawyers, psychologists, social scientists, educators, managers, financiers and specialists in other fields.
MRU Mediation and Sustainable Dispute Resolution Laboratory is a team of the strongest and most recognized mediation theorists and practitioners recognized in Lithuania, who actively participate in educating the public, conducting research, shaping, improving and implementing state policy in the field of mediation.
Mission
To conduct relevant, competitive, knowledge-based research on mediation and conflict resolution. Provide qualification and skills-based improvement for professionals, as well as training and consultancy services in the field of mediation and alternative dispute techniques for persons and organizations in Lithuania and the region.
Vision
To be a regional leader in interdisciplinary research and application of mediation and sustainable conflict resolution, who impacts public and private organizations while making decisions aimed at improving the methods for conflict resolution and broadening their application through innovative means.

Objective:
To become a leader in the region by conducting high-level interdisciplinary research and other related activities in the field of sustainable dispute resolution, which would have a real impact on state authorities and business within the limits of its competence, in making decisions related to the improvement of dispute resolution processes and the widespread application of innovative methods.
Tasks:
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of international and national scientific programs and projects related to mediation and sustainable dispute resolution;
- Prepare scientific publications on various issues of harmonious dispute resolution;
- Participate in the preparation and implementation of training and qualification improvement programs for mediation and harmonious dispute resolution specialists in the public and private sectors;
- Provide dispute resolution mediation and alternative dispute resolution services, consultations, and expert assessments to the public and business entities;
- Cooperate with social partners in implementing the laboratory’s objectives and assisting them in developing a more peaceful dispute resolution culture in their activities;
- Organize events, participate in national and international scientific and practical conferences, seminars, and other events related to the laboratory’s areas of activity;Participate in the process of informing and educating the public on mediation and the application of harmonious dispute resolution;
- Participate in scientific networks, share and collect best practices.

2. Name of the project: Training in the application of judicial mediation for judges.
Source of funding: Norwegian Financial Mechanism Programme LT13 “Efficiency, quality and transparency in Lithuanian courts”, project “Improvement (training) of representatives of the judicial system (including judges, court staff and NTA representatives)”.
Project execution period: August 2015 – January 2016 (trained about 600 judges, assistant judges and representatives of the judicial administration).

18. Name of the project: Training on the use of mediation in disputes between victims of domestic violence and perpetrators.
Source of funding: The project “Improving the quality of work and strengthening competencies in the justice chain to protect victims of domestic and gender-based violence” is funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism for the period 2014-2021.

Head of the Mediation and Sustainable Dispute Resolution Laboratory since 2022.
Professor at the Institute of Private Law at Mykolas Romeris University Law School, Doctor of Law.
Regularly conducts seminars on mediation for lawyers and paralegals, judges, judicial assistants, lawyers, and representatives of other professions (over 1,000 hours). Since 2012, has been conducting lectures and seminars on “Fundamentals of Mediation,” “Mediation in Family Disputes,” and “Alternative Dispute Resolution” in Lithuanian and English for bachelor’s and master’s degree students in Lithuania and abroad. “Mediation in Family Disputes,” “Alternative Dispute Resolution” lectures and seminars in Lithuanian and English for bachelor’s and master’s students in Lithuania and at foreign universities. From February 2013 to March 2019, was the chair of the Lithuanian Court of Arbitration. In 2013, co-authored Mediation, in 2019, the methodological publication Mediator’s Guide, in 2023, the publication Methodological Guide for Hearing the Child’s Opinion, and in 2024, the publication Methodological Guide for Ensuring the Best Interests of the Child. Since October 2014, has been a mediator-expert in the project “Implementation of Mediation in Probation Institutions.” In 2014, Agnė Tvaronavičienė was a member of the working group on the improvement of conciliation (mediation) in civil proceedings, established by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. Since February 2018, has been a CEDR-accredited mediator in the United Kingdom. Regularly conducts training courses on mediation and peaceful conflict management. By order of the Minister of Justice, has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Mediator Qualification Examination Commission. Is a founder and member of the Council of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators for the period 2017-2025. Has been a member of the Mediator Performance Evaluation Commission since 2021 and will become its chair in 2025. Author and co-author of national and international publications on mediation topics and was an expert in the preparation of the ex post evaluation report on the impact of the legal regulation of mandatory mediation in family disputes, which came into force on December 30, 2022. Prof. Dr. Natalia Kaminskienė
Head of the MRU Mediation and Sustainable Dispute Resolution Laboratory 2015–2021.
Former Director of the National Court Administration, Vice-Rector for Studies at Mykolas Romeris University, Professor at the Institute of Private Law of the Law School.
Until June 2019, former lawyer and arbitrator. Areas of specialization: amicable resolution of business and family disputes (negotiation, mediation, arbitration). Since 2010, has been teaching legal negotiation, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution in Lithuanian and English at Mykolas Romeris University since 2010, and regularly conducts seminars for lawyers and paralegals, judges, judicial assistants, and legal professionals on legal negotiations and mediation (over 300 hours). In 2011, she published a monograph entitled “Alternative Civil Dispute Resolution,” in 2013 a textbook entitled “Mediation” together with co-authors, in 2019 a monograph entitled “Legal Negotiations,” and in 2019 she was co-author of the methodological publication “Mediator’s Guide.” From 2012 to 2024, she was a permanent member of the Judicial Mediation Commission. From 2014 to 2016, she worked in the implementation group for the concept of developing a conciliation (mediation) system established by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. From 2016 to 2019, she mediated in negotiations between collective copyright management organizations organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. Since February 2018, she has been an accredited mediator with CEDR in the United Kingdom. She regularly conducts mediation training courses. She is the creator and head of the MRU Mediation Master’s program and a founder of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators.
Indrė Kasiulaitė
Lecturer at the Institute of Private Law at Mykolas Romeris University Law School, teaching Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2022. PhD student at MRU, whose field of research covers mediation and mandatory mediation. Chair of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators since March 2025, member of the Council of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators from 2024 to 2025. Member of the Mediator Qualification Examination since 2025, Deputy Chair of the Mediator Performance Evaluation Commission since 2025. Member of the Ethics Committee of the International Mediators Institute (IMI), judge of international law student mediation tournaments. Since 2022, she has been conducting training on mediation topics in Lithuanian and English. She is the author and co-author of publications on mediation topics and participated in the preparation of the ex post evaluation report on the impact of the legal regulation of mandatory mediation in family disputes, which came into force on December 30, 2022.
Odeta Intė
PhD student at the Institute of Private Law at Mykolas Romeris University.
Has more than 15 years of experience in the field of child rights protection and family law. Since 2008, she has been included in the list of court mediators and performs judicial mediation; since 2010, she has been a member of an international network of mediators and provides mediation services in family disputes with an international element. Since June 2016, she has been included in the list of mediators providing non-judicial conciliation services of the State Guaranteed Legal Aid Service. Specialization – amicable resolution of family disputes. Founder and board member of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators.
Roberta Petkevičiūtė
Mediator, psychologist.
Mediator, psychologist. Former mediator at the Lithuanian Probation Service, Master’s degree in Applied Criminal Psychology from MRU, member of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators, supervisor of family conference coordinators.
Prof. dr. Rokas Uscila
Professor at the Institute of Criminal Law and Procedure, Faculty of Law, Mykolas Romeris University. Mediator-lawyer working in the field of criminal justice. Advisor to the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania.
Specialises in conducting mediation processes in courts, police stations, probation services and communities. 10 years of experience as a mediator, 5 years of practice as a mediator-expert (conducting training and supervision, consultations, preparation of expert conclusions). In 2014-2015, expert mediator in the project “Implementation of Mediation in Probation Institutions.” Regular mediation training. One of the creators of the MRU Mediation Master’s program. Founder and chairman of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators.
Prof. dr. Jolanta Sondaitė
Professor at the Institute of Psychology at Mykolas Romeris University, teaching subjects related to mediation and negotiation since 2002.
Since 2012, she has been a member of the Network of Cross-Border Family Mediators, regularly participating in mediation training and supervision organized by this network. Since 2012, she has been mediating family disputes at the Child Rights Protection Division of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration and the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service. At the invitation of the German Central Authority, she conducted cross-border family mediation in Germany (2013). Since 2014, she has been a mediator at the Vilnius Commercial Arbitration Court. She regularly writes scientific publications and gives presentations at conferences on the topic of conflict and mediation. She has conducted numerous training courses on mediation, conflict and stress management (over 200 hours). In 2015, she conducted training for judges and assistant judges on the topic of mediation. Founder and member of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators.
Egidijus Langys
Lecturer and doctoral student at the Institute of Private Law, Mykolas Romeris University Law School.
Since 2011, arbitrator at the Vilnius Commercial Arbitration Court. Since 2012, court mediator, lawyer and partner at the AVOCAD law firm. Co-author of the 2013 textbook Mediation and author of scientific publications on mediation. In 2014, he was a member of the working group on the improvement of conciliation (mediation) in civil proceedings, established by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. In 2015, he conducted training for judges and assistant judges on the topic of judicial mediation. He regularly conducts mediation training at the Saturday Mediation School. Founder and board member of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators.
Daiva Račelytė
Lecturer at Vytautas Magnus University, former lecturer at MRU, psychologist, since 2002 has been teaching courses on conflict management, mediation, and negotiation at MRU.
She is a psychodrama therapist. She acquired the basics of mediation through a program organized by Partners for Democratic Change, participating in training sessions with experienced mediators and mediation trainers from the US, Canada, and other countries. She has published scientific articles and teaching materials on conflict and conflict management, and is the co-author of several textbooks (including the textbook Mediation). She has many years of experience as a trainer for professionals in various fields (including more than 500 hours on conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation). In 2015, she conducted training on mediation for judges and judicial assistants.
Donata Gudeikė
Lawyer, psychologist, mediator at the Eastern Lithuania Division of the Lithuanian Probation Service, lecturer at the Institute of Private Law at Mykolas Romeris University Law School, founder and member of the Lithuanian Chamber of Mediators. Conducts training on various topics, including mediation.
Dr. Julia Radanova
A lawyer and mediator with more than 10 years of experience, she has published more than 15 publications in the field of mediation and two books. After completing her doctoral studies in Bulgaria, Julia continued her research activities at Mykolas Romeris University as a postdoctoral fellow in 2024-2025, and since 2025 she has been working as a senior researcher at the MRU Law School. She is a Fulbright visiting scholar and a Harvard-trained mediator who lectures on mediation throughout Europe and has trained more than 500 mediators in Bulgaria. Julia also served as the main mediator for the EBRD’s Independent Project Accountability Mechanism. Julia is a senior expert at the ADR Center and is a case manager for its out-of-court dispute resolution mechanism established under the https://ods.adrcenter.it/.
Alina Sierhieieva
IMI certified mediator and United Nations Peace and Development Advisor in Ukraine. She teaches negotiation and mediation at Mykolas Romeris University, where she also conducts research on alternative dispute resolution and mediation. With more than 15 years of experience in the fields of law, mediation, and justice reform, she has worked as an expert for the EU’s Pravo-Justice project and GIZ Rule of Law Central Asia. Alina is the founder of the GEMME Ukraine national chapter and a mediator listed by WIPO. She is a licensed lawyer who combines academic, practical, and political experience in the field of conflict resolution. Her publications focus on comparative studies of mediation systems and the integration of mediation into public administration. Alina holds an LLM degree in Mediation.
