Project Objective: to develop and implement trauma-informed teaching (TIT) methodologies designed to support students affected by war and forced displacement.
Project Summary: The war has disrupted higher education, leading to prolonged distance learning, forced relocation, and increased psychological and emotional stress. Ukrainian universities face significant challenges in ensuring the continuity of the academic process while addressing students’ trauma-related needs. The SAFE LEARN project introduces structured, evidence-based pedagogical methods that take trauma into account and promote resilience and engagement. The project brings together a multinational and interdisciplinary consortium of European and Ukrainian universities to integrate TST into curricula, train educators, and develop digital resources to ensure accessibility and long-term sustainability. The project’s methodology includes the development of TST strategies, the training of over 100 educators, the piloting of student-needs-based interventions, and the establishment of an Online Resource Center (ORC) dedicated to digital learning and psychological and emotional support. “SAFE LEARN” will strengthen Ukraine’s academic sector by improving student well-being, enhancing learning outcomes, and ensuring sustainable, high-quality education even in times of crisis.
The project is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ program.
