March 10th, 2015, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis thanked academic community for all "that creates goodness" and said that the University is an example of a Lithuanian success story.

Dignitaries, including Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson and Ukraine's Ambassador Valery Zhovtenko, attended an event marking the 25th anniversary of Lithuania's Restoration of Independence that was held on campus.

Addressing Iceland's President Grimsson, Rector Prof. Pumputis said that MRU was established along with Lithuania's Independence and during this period 50,000 students have graduated.

"I dare say that Mykolas Romeris University is also a success story of Lithuania," the Rector stated. He said that during the last two decades MRU has become a member of many international associations, organizations and made many meaningful contacts and ties.

"One of those is cooperation with Iceland's University," he said.

In his welcome address, Rector Prof. Pumputis also mentioned active, civic-minded students. He cited MRU Student Body (MRUSA) President Lukas Borusevičius and former MRUSA President Laurynas Juozapaitis, who were recently interviewed by British BBC radio journalists.

Both of these MRU Presidents told the BBC that they will defend their country and seek values, which have not yet been reached. "Such a position on the part of our students is our greatest asset and recompense," Rector Prof. Pumputis said.

Later Rector Prof. Pumputis presented Lukas Borusevičius with a thick tome of Lithuania's Constitution translated into 13 foreign languages.

During the festive event, Rector Prof. Pumputis invited to shake hands with fellow colleagues, academics and students gathered at the Independence Restoration Day event at the Rotunda Hall.

On this festive occasion, copies of Lithuania's Constitution were also presented to former Premier and ex-Seimas member Gediminas Vagnorius, MRU Prof. Vytautas Pakalniškis, Law Faculty Prof. Juozas Žilys, Prof. Vytautas Sinkevičius, Assoc.
