On May 15 at 11:00, we invite you to take part in the traditional Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) “Celebration of Scientific Thought.”
This event is dedicated to commemorating the birthday of Professor Mykolas Römeris. The celebration will begin with welcome speeches and ceremonial awards—the MRU Senate Honor badges. The purpose of these awards is to honor individuals whose academic, civic, or other activities deserve special recognition from the University community and society at large.
This year’s program will feature students reading childhood memories of her father by Jadvyga Vitkauskienė, the daughter of Prof. M. Römeris. In addition, MRU lecturer Professor Dr. Ieva Deviatnikovaitė will present a lecture titled “The Activities of Mykolas Römeris and Lithuanian Statehood,” which will examine the connections between Prof. M. Römeris’ legal work and the origins of Lithuanian statehood.
Special attention during the event will also be given to the initiatives of young creators and researchers, as well as innovative interpretations of history.
The results of an essay competition organized by Obeliai Gymnasium (Rokiškis District), dedicated to reflecting on the personality and legacy of Professor Mykolas Römeris, will be announced, recognizing the most original and mature works.
The best works by students and alumni submitted to the publication “Celebration of Scientific Thought 2026” will also be awarded, highlighting academic creativity and the exploration of relevant topics. This initiative aims to encourage student involvement in research activities.
During the event, AI-generated videos titled “Mykolas Römeris Between History and Algorithm” will also be presented, offering a new perspective on historical texts and dialogues.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to explore a virtual exhibition dedicated to the life and work of Professor Mykolas Römeris, allowing for an interactive and modern way to learn about this distinguished figure and his contribution to Lithuanian statehood.
At the end of the event, we will invite participants to socialize in an informal setting over refreshments in the Rotunda Hall.
