Prof. Dr. Rudi Roose’s Visit to MRU: Lectures and Discussions on Socially Sensitive Research

From October 20-24, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will host Prof. Dr. Rudi Roose, Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy at Ghent University (Belgium) and President of the International Association “Social Work and Society.” During his visit, the professor will share his experience and insights on conducting socially sensitive research, addressing ethical challenges, and exploring publication opportunities in academic journals.

The aim of the visit is to strengthen MRU researchers’ competencies in the field of socially sensitive research, promote the exchange of scientific insights on ethical issues, and discuss academic publishing opportunities from the perspective of a journal editor.

Discussions with Researchers

On October 21, Prof. Dr. R. Roose will meet with the administration of the Faculty of Human and Social Studies, researchers from the Institute of Educational Sciences and Social Work, and the Excellence Center project Development of social skills of children in permanent care team. The meeting will focus on discussing emerging research directions in the fields of social work and social pedagogy.

Lectures and Discussions with Students

During visit, Prof. Dr. Rudi Roose will deliver several lectures for MRU  bachelor degree  and doctoral students:

October 21, 14:30 - 16:00 – “Cultivating a Positive Living and Working Climate in Residential Youth Care: A Pedagogical Perspective.”

October 22, 14:30 - 16:00 – “Development of Critical Social Work Practices with People in Vulnerable Situations.”

October 22, 16:15 - 17:45 – “Writing for International Publications.”

Focus on the Child Welfare System

During his stay in Lithuania, Prof. Roose will also visit the SOS Children’s Village – an organization providing humanitarian and educational support to children, defending their interests and rights. During the visit, he will familiarize himself with the child welfare system in Lithuania and the services provided by the organization to children and young people in care. He will also share his research insights on child and youth care services with leaders of child welfare organizations operating in Vilnius and representatives of the Center for the Development of Social Workers’ Competences.

This visit is organized within the framework of the project "Establishment of Centres of Excellence at Mykolas Romeris University", funded from the state budget and implemented within the framework of the programme "Initiative of Centres of Excellence" initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania.
