
We kindly invite you to the eighth annual public discussion Dr. Lamers NATO Hearings, which has become a tradition and will take place on May 19nd 11:00-12:30, Room I-414.
The topic of the seventh hearings is: NATO before the Hague Summit and beyond.
MRU’s faculty and students are kindly invited to the Hearings which is a possibility to experience range of authoritative opinions on regional and global security.
The keynote speaker of the discussion traditionally is Prof. h. c. Dr. Karl A. Lamers, a former long-time member of the Defence Committee of the Bundestag and former President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, an influential German politician with decades of high-level experience in transatlantic security issues.
The panel of commentators will include:
Karolis Aleksa, Lithuanian Defence Vice-Minister for defence planning and policy, former adviser at the Lithuanian Mission at the NATO, with many years of successful career in the Lithuanian Defence Ministry, including top management positions.
Petras Auštrevičius, MEP, member of the EP’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, member of Subcommittee on Security and Defence, EP’s permanent shadow rapporteur on Ukraine, former Lithuanian Chief Negotiator in EU accession talks, for decades closely involved in shaping today’s Lithuanian foreign affairs, security strategy and policies.
Žygimantas Pavilonis, Vice-Chair and former Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lithuanian Seimas, former Lithuanian Ambassador to the United States of America, commanding a vast knowledge in transatlantic relations, always passionately involved in Lithuanian foreign affairs, security strategy and the nurture of the transatlantic connection.
Vykintas Pugačiauskas, renowned journalist and political commentator with the national broadcaster LRT TV, a long-established authority on international and security issues. He also had a spell of diplomatic service at the Lithuanian Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and at the Lithuanian Mission at the EU.
