Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will offer tuition waivers for Belarus students who want to study, but were unable to do so due to the unstable political situation. Those students who are unable to leave Belarus to come to Vilnius, will be able to study online remotely. This is an opportunity for students from Belarus to obtain a quality higher education.

Almost Two Dozen Belarus Students Study at MRU

MRU Rector Prof. Inga Žalėnienė said that at this time there are 22 Belarussian students, but there could really be more of them.

"Internationalization is one of the priorities of our activity strategy and students from Belarus will be able to adapt easily to the multicultural university environment," she said. In addition, the Rector noted that the number of international students at MRU is growing each year. Students from abroad select MRU for the double diploma studies programmes and many come due to bilateral or "Erasmus" exchange programmes. At this time there are students from 69 countries studying at MRU - mostly from Ukraine, Turkey, France, Spain and Nigeria.

Individual Approach to Applicants

Students from Belarus will be able not only to study for free, but also to apply for and receive scholarships as well as to acquire a higher education, if they were expelled from a university due to political reasons or for civic activism. Those that can not come to study at the University due to the current situation and difficulties leaving Belarus, the University will offer to begin studies remotely online. Now admission to undergraduate programmes in English is done online.

According to Prof. Žalėnienė, students from Belarus can choose to study in MRU's Bachelor's Degree programmes in English. At this time the University offers 11 such programmes: „Branding and Advertising Management“, "Communication and Digital Marketing“, „Digital Economy“, „English for Specific Purposes and Korean Studies“, „English for Specific Purposes and the Second Foreign Language“, „English Language Minor Studies“, „Financial Industry“, „Global Business and Modern Marketing“, "Informatics and Digital Contents“, „Psychology“, "Social Work and Human Rights“, "Tourism Management and Heritage“.

The Rector said the University, understanding the difficult political situation in Belarus, would also individually evaluate the results of applicants, subjects already studied, especially if applicants were expelled from Belarusian state universities.

"It is possible that Belarusian students were expelled from state universities due to political reasons or due to civic activism. So, we must show solidarity with the neighbouring nation and evaluate the situation of each applicant individually. I have no doubt that we would take into account and be able to give credit for those studies' subjects, which were already studied in their country's universities," Rector said.

Huge International Experience

Rector Prof. Žalėnienė noted that the youth of Belarus may find MRU attractive not only for studies' programmes in English, but also for European quality higher education and a rather large number of students studying from neighbouring Ukraine. According to 2020-2021 data, there were 141 students from Ukraine studying at MRU.

"MRU has been cooperating closely with Lithuania's neighbouring country universities for many years. We have extensive experience with the largest universities in Ukraine. Students from Ukraine willingly choose MRU double diploma programmes," said Rector Prof. Žalėnienė.

"I think this is a significant advantage for Belarusians as it shows that is easy for students from neighbouring countries to adapt in our country," Rector Prof. Žalėnienė noted.
