Internationalization is today understood more broadly than merely attracting foreign students. It includes partnerships with universities in other countries, joint study programs, academic staff exchanges, and the internationalization of doctoral studies. In this field, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) stands out, consistently ranking among the top institutions based on various internationalization indicators.

MRU consistently invests in international cooperation to provide opportunities for students and academic staff to gain international experience, learn from the best practices of foreign universities, and better understand different cultures. According to the latest data from the magazine Reitingai, as many as 6.3% of all programs offered by MRU are joint degree programs with foreign universities – the highest rate among the evaluated public universities. MRU is the first university in Lithuania to launch a dual degree program with academic partners in the Republic of Korea. Young people are increasingly choosing MRU’s and Dongseo University’s (in Busan, South Korea) unique joint degree programs in Digital Media Design and Game Development and Digital Animation. MRU also offers Korean language and culture studies at its King Sejong Institute, as well as Japanese language courses. Dual degree programs with French universities Savoie-Mont-Blanc and Bordeaux are also in high demand.

There is also noticeable growth in the area of doctoral studies – the proportion of international doctoral students has reached 17.5% of the total doctoral population, placing MRU second in the country by this indicator. Academic staff mobility has also grown significantly – according to this year’s magazine data, 71.7% of MRU’s academic staff were visiting lecturers from abroad participating in the Erasmus program. Last year, this figure stood at 44.2%. The number of MRU lecturers going abroad on exchange programs also increased significantly – from 46.4% to 80.7%.

"Our strategic goal is to be a university without borders. It is important to us that both our students and lecturers have the opportunity to engage in the international academic space, learn from the best, and together with international partners, create innovations in the social sciences. Internationalization is not just a goal for us – it is our daily reality,” says Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University, Vice President of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and President of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA).

ERUA (European Reform University Alliance) is an ambitious partnership of European universities that unites progressive, socially responsible institutions focused on open, interdisciplinary, and critical-thinking-driven learning. As a member of ERUA, MRU actively contributes to strengthening the common European Higher Education Area.

MRU's strategic efforts in the field of internationalization contribute to a broader goal – strengthening the international competitiveness of Lithuanian higher education. The ability of universities to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and operate in a global context is becoming increasingly important for both the quality of education and the attractiveness of Lithuania as a study destination.
