On September 1st, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) hosted a delegation from the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), including secretary-general Prof. Tatsuro Tanioka and former Vice President Prof. Ichiro Tanioka.

The purpose of the visit was to prepare for the IAUP International Conference, scheduled to take place at MRU in April 2026. The guests met with MRU’s leadership and representatives of the International Office to discuss organizational matters. They also toured the university facilities that will host this international event.

During the working meeting, the delegation was introduced to MRU’s strategy, academic activities, international partnerships, and the community’s involvement in global initiatives. MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė welcomed the guests, emphasizing the openness of the University – celebrating its 35th anniversary – and its close cooperation with partners worldwide.

“I believe that the planned gathering of higher education leaders in Vilnius will be an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on strengthening the role and impact of universities in society during significant transformations taking place in the modern world,” said MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė.

This visit marks an important step in preparing for the international IAUP event in April 2026, which will bring together university leaders from around the world to discuss the future of higher education, leadership, and global trends.

The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is a global organization that unites university leaders: rectors, presidents, and vice-chancellors. The Association works to strengthen the internationalization of universities, foster collaboration among leaders, promote the exchange of academic ideas, shape a global vision for education, and cultivate peace and mutual understanding through education.

IAUP holds the highest consultative status with the United Nations (ECOSOC) and is an official consultative organization of UNESCO.
