Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), together with partners from the project-coordinating Aalborg University (Denmark), the University of Oulu (Finland), Halmstad University (Sweden), and the University of Siegen (Germany), is implementing the project “Getting Out of the Comfort Zone” (GOOCZ). The project aims to familiarise members of the academic community with the working environment of companies and to strengthen cooperation between universities and other sectors by developing learning and teaching practices, with the goal of preparing graduates for the future labour market.
To achieve this goal, an intensive training placement programme for university lecturers and doctoral candidates took place in Oulu, Finland, on 1–5 December. Representatives of MRU from the Faculty of Public Governance and Business and the Law School also participated: Prof. Dr Andrius Stasiukynas, Junior Assistant Justinas Staliūnas, PhD candidate Laura Matjošaitytė, and Assoc. Prof. Dr Aušra Šukvietienė (a member of the project team and mentor of the placement).
During the placements, participants had the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience in various industrial sectors, take part in interactive workshops and problem-based learning sessions, and deepen their understanding of operational practices across different sectors and their links to the development of study programmes.
During the placements, representatives of the academic community had the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into:
- iLOQ – a leading developer of patented energy-harvesting technology, applying this technology to ensure smart and secure access to buildings and everyday spaces;
- Kaleva Media – a multimedia company offering locally relevant content, service models and platforms for communities, as well as comprehensive advertising solutions across various digital channels and print media;
- Oulun Energia – one of Finland’s leading energy companies, producing electricity and heat, providing reliable network services, and offering innovative energy and heating solutions for residents and businesses.
