MRU Grad Jurkevits Winner of Best Master’s Thesis 2016

Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) graduate Anastasiya Jurkevits Master's thesis, "Contemporary Discourses on Pension Reform in Belarus" has been recognized as the Best 2016 Master's Thesis by Lithuania's Young Scientists' Association (Lietuvos jaunųjų mokslininkų sąjunga). Jurkevits, now Lithuania's Social Research Center Sociology Institute's doctoral student, was under the supervision of MRU Prof. Sarmitė Mikulionienė. She defended her thesis when studying in a joint Master's Degree programme, "Comparative Social Policy and Welfare," with Finlnd's University of Tampere, and Austria's Johannes Kepler University Linz. The Master's Degree papers were evaluated by more than 70 individuals. Jurkevits thesis analyzed how official and alternative Belarus policy discourses regarding pension reform influence internal policy changes and regulation. Her research work presents a theoretical view of pension policy development and regulation in Belarus. The thesis touches on Belarus' contemporary social system structure, political problems and economic challenges.
