April 7th, 2016, India's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Assoc. Prof. Raj Sekhar Basu, from the Centre for the Study of Discrimination & Exclusion, presented a lecture on Indian linguist Suniti Kumar Chatterji's (1890-1977) research on the Balts.

Chatterji (1890-1977) was an Indian linguist, educationist, writer and a recipient of the third highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Bhushan.

During Soviet times Chatterji visited Lithuania in 1964 and 1966. He drew attention to the ties between Baltic traditions and the old farming culture and efforts to keep the past alive, despite tendencies to assimiliate members of the population.

After the lecture, Assoc. Prof. Basu presented a copy of Chatterji's 1968 book, "Balts and Aryans," to MRU Library Director Nijolė Liatukienė. The book was published by the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies in Simla.

The event was organized by Mykolas Romeris University's (MRU) Values Laboratory, which is headed by MRU Assoc. Prof. Povilas Aleksandravičius.

Prof. Basu, from India, is one of several visiting professors that are lecturing at MRU after receiving financing from Lithuania's Ministry of Education and Science.
