European Joint Master’s in Strategic Border Management Pgm Board Members Met

Feb. 24th, 2016, members of the Programme Board of the European Joint Masters in Strategic Border Management met at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

Members, including a group of lecturers numbering more than a dozen, met on campus. They discussed the new joint Master's programme which supports and trains national border guards in European Union (EU) countries.

MRU is one of the universities implementing the programme funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Frontex, the European agency responsible for external EU border control.

The 26 students of the Joint Master's programme come from various agencies safeguarding borders in EU countries. The programme is only open to employees of border control agencies in EU countries.

Students began studies in the programme in the fall of 2015.

Aside from MRU, universities in Spain, the Netherlands, Latvia are participating.

MRU Faculty of Public Security Vice-Dean Prof. Vaiva Zuzevičiūtė said the unique programme is targeted at increasing the competencies of border guards in the EU.

"Frontex is paying for this and thanks to them," added Zuzevičiūtė, one of the programme's initiators and organizers. MRU International Office Head Audra Dargytė-Burokienė also helped organize and implement the programme, Zuzevičiūtė said.

MRU Public Security Dean Prof. Saulius Greičius, Public Security Law Dept. Head Prof. Birutė Pranevičienė and Public Security Lecturer Danguolė Seniutienė were among those attending the meeting. MRU Dr. Inga Juknytė-Petreikienė also participated and attended the meetings.

On Friday, Feb. 26th, the programme's Governing Board meeting was held at MRU. Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Giedrius Viliūnas delivered the welcome address.
