Sometimes, in order to achieve our goals and be successful, we need to overcome a number of obstacles and never give up, despite failure. This is perfectly illustrated by MRU's team, whcih for many years did not stop pursuing its dream - to win funding for the prestigious Erasmus Mundus project, so that joint studies, "Social Work with Children and Youth" could see the light of day and become the first studies programme of such level in Lithuania. This however is not only the good news, but also an obligation.

First, because these studies are implemented together with partner institutions: Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), Rīga Stradiņš University (Latvia), Catholic University in Ružomberok (Slovakia) and Lisbon University Institute (Portugal), it is a European programme. This way not only content of studies is created together, but also a thorough selection of students is carried out. It ensures that they represent counties from all over the globe: Italy, Bangladesh, Philippines, Brazil, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritius, Indonesia, Finland and even U.S.

The aim of this studies programme is very noble, because it will help to prepare a group of qualified specialists social work specialists, able to work with children and youth in any country of the world. At the same time, they get international experience, while studying each semester in a different country of partner universities. Their journeys will start in Lithuania; afterward studies will move to Latvia and Slovakia and finally end up in Portugal. This way ESWOCHY students will have a chance not only to get to know the peculiarities of social work in each country, but also meet people from various cultures, make new friends and build relationships, that will remind about this studies experience for the rest of their lives.

Recently, Vladislav Babchan - the ambassador of Slovakia in Latvia, was joking: “In September my ambassador year started and back then we didn't have many housework cases, like people losing documents…now we getting this kind of console issue from young people: “Well, I studied in Lithuania and I’m going to get married to this guy…” And this is not like one or two cases now. So, this is a very nice aspect of the whole situation. People get married, but this is also important and this opens up new horizons”.
