On June 11, 2026, an international conference “Best Practices in the Protection of National Minorities in Europe” will take place at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). The conference is dedicated to discussing experiences and best practices in the protection of national minority rights across Europe.

The conference is organized by Mykolas Romeris University in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius, the Institute of Central Europe, and the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

For decades, the rights of national minorities have been an important part of Europe’s democratic development, social cohesion, and human rights protection. The experience of different European countries demonstrates that effective protection of minority rights strengthens social harmony, mutual trust, and democratic stability.

During the conference, researchers, experts, policymakers, and representatives of national minority communities from various European countries will discuss:

  • legal and political models for the protection of national minority rights;
  • education and teaching in minority languages;
  • preservation of languages, culture, and traditions;
  • the role of media, memory politics, and digitalization in strengthening an inclusive society.

Among the speakers will be experts from Lithuania, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Finland, the United Kingdom, Hungary, and other European countries.

The conference will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into Lithuanian.
