As part of Climate Awareness Month at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), the ERUA student community invites the University community and guests to visit the exhibition “SHADE” by Lithuanian artist Eglė Narbutaitė.
“Change or accept?” – the artist asks in this exhibition. Through her works, she reflects on a society overheated by the inertia of consumption. While inviting viewers to step out of the heat and pause in the shade, she also questions whether such respite is truly possible. The shade – and its pleasant coolness – becomes a metaphor for the satisfaction of hedonistic needs in contemporary society.
The drawings presented in the exhibition, characteristic of Narbutaitė’s artistic practice, are marked by subtle humour that avoids didacticism. Addressing pressing global issues, the artist draws attention to today’s challenges while maintaining a light, self-ironic tone that encourages viewers to reflect without moralising.
Eglė Narbutaitė (b. 1988) graduated in Performance Art from Kingston University, London, and is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Union. Her street art can be found on buildings in Lithuania and abroad. She is well known within the Šiauliai art scene and is also the creator of the solo musical performance “Bliuvė” (Cry Baby). Currently, she lives and works in Vilnius. “Shade” is her largest solo exhibition to date.
The exhibition will be on display from 2 to 31 March at the MRU Sustainability Area (C-II Building, 2nd Floor).
