Feb. 21st, 2015, at the Vilnius 2015 Book Fair (LITEXPO Hall, Vilnius), the newly-published monograph in Lithuanian, "Lyčių Ekonomika" (Gender Economy) was presented.

The 762-page book, published by Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), is the first of its kind in Lithuania that includes gender economic theoretical and methodology fundamentals.

The book was edited by MRU Institute of Economics & Business Prof. Ona Gražina Rakauskienė with academics: MRU institute of Economics & Business Prof. Dalia Štreimikienė, MRU Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Prof. Inga Žalėnienė, Ilona Kiaušienė, MRU dr. Vaida Servetkienė and MRU Lecturer Eglė Krinickienė.

Discrimination based on gender limits women's access to resources, education, jobs, and makes the economy ineffective in both developed and developing countries. Gaps between genders' wages indicates that women are not paid in accordance with labour market leading to inefficient use of labour to the detriment of women.

This gap is due to ineffective information flows due to historical, cultural and traditional customs of society and stereotypes.

A conclusion of the book is that Lithuania's transition to a market economy has further enhanced discrimination of women in the economy.

During the transition, there's a significant decline in employment of women and thus a strong vertical segregation of the labour market and devaluation of women's work, according to the book's conclusions.

The monograph, published in 2014, has a colourful cover illustrated with Auguste Renoir's painting, "Bal du moulin de la Galette" (1876).
