UNESCO Member States adopted the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence) at the 2021 General Conference, the first global document to protect human rights and promote the positive, equitable and inclusive development of IoT technologies worldwide. As technology continues to evolve, international organisations and states around the world are adapting and developing regulatory frameworks to ensure the sustainable development of IoT technologies and the readiness of the public sector. Successful application of these technologies requires an inclusive, transparent and flexible policy-making process and consensus among the various stakeholders on priority areas, action plan and programme development.
