Webinar

June 3rd, 2021 at 4 p.m. LT time, join us for a Webinar with Oxford and MRU academics to discuss the international incident with Ryanair Flight 4978. This diversion was widely reported in the press. However, the legal issues are still not covered in detail. The main questions arising are whether states may order civil aircraft flying over their territory to land for certain purposes, and whether they are entitled to compel them to do so. Moreover, the Webinar will cover the responsibility under the Montreal Sabotage Convention of 1971 and The Hague Hijacking Convention of 1970, as well as other related legal issues.

Confirmed Speakers:

  • Miles Jackson, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford.
  • Antonios Tzanakopoulos, Associate Professor of Public International Law at the University of Oxford and Fellow of St Anne’s College.
  • Justinas Žilinskas, Professor of International Law at Mykolas Romeris University.
  • Regina Valutytė, Professor of International Law at Mykolas Romeris University.

The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dainius Žalimas, The President of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court, and a Professor of Law at Mykolas Romeris University.

The Webinar will be held in English and is planned to last up to 1,5 hours. The event will also be broadcast on the  MRU Youtube page
