In 2021, 24.4% of children in the EU were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, compared to 21.1% of adults. This is particularly worrying as childhood poverty can have a lifelong impact.

In the context of these statistics, the European Chapter of the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW Europe), together with the Institute of Education and Social Work of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) and the Lithuanian Social Welfare Association, is organising a research seminar on 'Child and Family Poverty', which will take place from 30 November to 1 December 2023.

The seminar will also discuss the links between poverty and climate change, and whether the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine and the associated price spikes may have contributed to the increase in poverty.

The seminar will be attended by Max Rubbish, President of the European Chapter of the International Council on Social Welfare (Austria), and will feature insights from national and international experts from Sweden, Finland, Austria, Germany, Spain, and an international organisation in Brussels. The international seminar will be held in English.

According to the European Poverty Watch Report 2022, migrants, Roma, the unemployed, women, the elderly, young people and especially children are the most affected by poverty.
