Summary: Not only the implementation of sustainable development goals, but also the transition to a circular economy is one of the EU’s priority goals, and their implementation is relevant to each EU country. The action plan adopted by the European Commission aims to accelerate Europe’s transition to a circular economy, increase global competitiveness, promote sustainable economic growth, mitigate environmental impacts and create new job places. An analysis of the scientific literature highlighted the problem of assessing the circular economy. Currently, when assessing the circular economy, only its individual components are analyzed, the research lacks complexity, therefore a methodology covering all components of the circular economy is needed, which would allow to determine the achieved level of the circular economy of the countries.

The scientific problem of the project is how to comprehensively assess the achieved level of the country’s circular economy?

The aim of the project is to develop a methodology for the comprehensive assessment of the country’s circular economy and to apply it empirically on the example of EU countries.

In order to achieve the aim of the project, the latest scientific literature regarding the object in question will be analyzed, the indicators will be refined and their significance will be determined; a methodology for the comprehensive assessment of the circular economy will be developed and the created methodology will be verified by empirical research on the example of selected EU countries. The obtained results will be significant in the formation of a targeted EU or national circular economy policy, on the basis of which it will be possible to make effective management decisions and develop strategies to improve the current situation.
