Academic Book Publishing
Academic book publishing at the University is organized in accordance with the annual research output plans of academic units, linking planned publications to the respective fields of research and their potential use in the study process. The plans are submitted to the Research and Innovation Centre, Research Quality and Development Unit by 15 October of the current year and updated if necessary.
The supervision of authors’ moral rights in periodical and other scholarly publications is carried out by the respective editorial boards, while the supervision of the economic rights of University affiliated authors is ensured by the Research and Innovation Centre. Publication related disputes are examined by the Publishing Committee, and matters of academic ethics are addressed by the relevant ethics committees.
Non Periodical Publications
Authors submit their manuscript to the Research and Innovation Centre, which verifies its compliance with formal requirements and conducts an academic integrity check. The manuscript is then forwarded to the relevant academic unit, which organizes the peer review process by appointing two reviewers, usually including at least one external reviewer.
Based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the results of the required checks, the council of the academic unit decides whether to approve the publication. Publications are generally issued in electronic format. If necessary, printed copies may also be produced. The decision regarding the need for printing and the print run is taken by the Publishing Committee.
Once a publication is approved, the Research and Innovation Centre prepares the necessary agreements, obtains an ISBN, coordinates editing, layout and printing processes, ensures the accuracy of publication metadata, and archives all related documentation.
Doctoral dissertations are not subject to the approval procedure. They may be printed after the Doctoral Committee grants permission to defend the dissertation and the doctoral candidate submits a formal request.
Dissemination
All University non periodical publications are deposited in the institutional repository MRU eBooks in open access, except in cases defined by specific agreements with publishers. By decision of the Committee, publications may also be made available on the Google Books platform.
