Corporate Governance Transformation in Light of Recent Sustainability Legislation
Project title: „Corporate Governance Transformation in Light of Recent Sustainability Legislation”
Project duration: from 2025 05 19 to 2025 10 31
Project manager: prof. dr. Lina Mikalonienė
Partner universities: Mykolas Romeris University, Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, and University of Tartu
Summary:
The project involves a collaborative work of an international group of academics and students from the three universities (DE, EE, LT) which by organizing a scientific hybrid (partly online) workshop aims at reflecting corporate governance transformation in light of the latest sustainability legislation in Germany and at EU level and enlarging the debate among young researchers and students in strengthening sustainable corporate governance.
Objectives:
1) advancing internationalisation of knowledge and research on the novel issues concerning sustainable corporate governance at the partner universities. An international group of academics and students will examine the phenomena of corporate sustainability due diligence, the German’s Due Diligence in Supply Chain Act, enforced in 2023, by identifying its best achievements and major drawbacks that are simultaneously important in implementation of EU directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence of 2024. They will also address how another EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive contributes to sustainable corporate governance transformation as well as reflect on a role of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights of the UN on corporate governance transformation.
2) Enlarging knowledge sharing on corporate governance transformation and promoting the horizontal integration of sustainability into traditional company law by involving into the workshop both those through the universities’ young researchers and students researching sustainable corporate governance in particular and those researching traditional company law aspects.
3) Strengthening international networking between academics and students at the partner universities, especially between young researchers (master students, PhD students, postdocs and other early-career researchers).
Public event (hybrid, in English) – scientific workshop: “Corporate Governance Transformation in Light of Recent Sustainability Legislation” is to be held on 17 September 2025, at the venue of Mykolas Romeris University, Ateities g. 20, LT-08303 Vilnius.
