The “Mediation Trainings for Beginners” program of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) for 2025–2026 has been evaluated by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and recognized as meeting the highest international mediation standards. Since May 2026, the program has been included in the list of IMI Recognized Mediator Training Programs (RMTP).
This recognition confirms the long-standing expertise of the MRU Mediation and Sustainable Conflict Resolution Research Laboratory and the high qualification standards of the mediators trained by the University. From now on, individuals who complete the MRU “Mediation Trainings for Beginners” program will be eligible to take the examination and apply for the internationally recognized IMI Qualified Mediator status, regarded worldwide as a mark of professional excellence.
Since 2011, the MRU Mediation and Sustainable Conflict Resolution Research Laboratory has been delivering basic mediator training programs and bringing together more than 10 mediation experts and practitioners. The accredited program has been developed in accordance with the legal framework governing mediation in the Republic of Lithuania, advanced mediation practice, and IMI international standards. The training is delivered by experienced lecturers accredited by international organizations.
“This is a major international recognition. IMI is one of the world’s most prestigious organizations, bringing together leading mediators and dispute resolution experts while setting international standards for mediation quality”, says Prof. Dr. Agnė Tvaronavičienė, researcher at the MRU Mediation and Sustainable Conflict Resolution Research Laboratory.
In pursuit of international recognition, the program was systematically enhanced by increasing the number of training hours, strengthening the quality of the curriculum, defining the competencies participants are expected to acquire or improve during the training, incorporating more practical exercises, expanding the pool of lecturers, and integrating both in-person and asynchronous online learning methods. The program content, organization, and lecturers’ qualifications were evaluated by independent international experts under IMI’s rigorous accreditation procedure.
IMI standards are recognized by the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) as the minimum European standard for mediation training. Consequently, IMI is the only mediation organization in the world whose standards have been acknowledged by an intergovernmental standard-setting body.
This international recognition once again confirms MRU’s leadership in the field of mediator training and its commitment to preparing mediators who meet the highest professional standards. The next training sessions are planned for September–October 2026.
