On January 27, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) hosted the opening of the exhibition “Struggle for freedom. The 1863–1864 Uprising”, organized by the University in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Lithuania.

During the exhibition opening, welcome remarks were delivered by MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė and Head of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland Grzegorz Marek Poznański.

“This exhibition reminds us that historical memory strengthens our values and the bonds between freedom-loving nations”, said MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė.

The exhibition introduces visitors to the 1863–1864 uprising against the occupation of the Russian Empire. Across thirteen exhibition panels, it presents the course of the uprising, the broader political and social context of the time, and the role of various social groups in the fight for freedom.

Today, the 1863–1864 uprising is regarded as a symbol of freedom, solidarity, and historical memory shared by Lithuania, Poland, and the wider region.

The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Polish History Museum and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

Exhibition period: January 27 – February 27, 2026

Location: Mykolas Romeris University, Sustainability Space (II Building, 2nd Floor, Ateities g. 20, Vilnius)
