MRU Lecturer Completed a Scientific Internship at RMIT University in Australia

From November 17 to 28, Dr. Marius Laurinaitis, professor of the Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law School undertook a scientific internship at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CCSRI) in Australia, as part of the project “AI and Personal Data Protection: Shaping the Future Regulatory Framework.”

During the internship, he collaborated with Prof. Dr. Matthew Warren, with whom MRU is developing the joint Australian–Lithuanian Cyber Security Research Network (ALCRN).

Development of Academic and International Partnerships in Australia and the Baltic Region

During the visit, meetings were held with the RMIT University School of Law to discuss potential collaboration in joint study programs and project proposals. He also participated in the School of Law’s end-of-year celebration, where the CCSRI team was recognized for its international research activities.

Significant attention during the internship was given to the expansion of the ALCRN network in the Baltic region. Meetings took place at the Lithuanian Embassy in Canberra, as well as at the Latvian and Estonian embassies, to discuss the collaboration of Australian and Baltic researchers on joint initiatives in the field of hybrid threat research.

Seminar at RMIT University CCSRI

At the RMIT University CCSRI, Prof. Dr. Marius Laurinaitis delivered a seminar on “European Union Digital Identity and Personal Digital Wallet Initiatives”, and during a meeting with the Australian government institution eSafety Commissioner, he discussed the upcoming 2025 regulation limiting minors’ access to social media and the implementation of new age verification technologies.

The internship strengthened MRU Law School's collaboration with the RMIT University School of Law and contributed to the development of the Australian–Lithuanian Cyber Security Research Network (ALCRN), opening new opportunities for international projects and collaborative initiatives.
