On 18–20 September, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will host the annual conference of the Central and Eastern European Network of Jurisprudence (CEENJ), marking the 20th anniversary of CEENJ and the 35th anniversary of MRU.

Since 2005, CEENJ has brought together legal philosophers and theorists from across Central and Eastern Europe. In recent years, it has expanded beyond the region and now welcomes legal scholars from around the world with an interest in questions of jurisprudence. The annual CEENJ conferences serve as a forum for sharing current issues in jurisprudence, addressing both fundamental questions of law and justice as well as contemporary legal challenges.

“Studies and research in legal philosophy and theory are more important than ever, as they foster a holistic understanding of law, critical thinking, recognition and cultivation of its underlying values, and the safeguarding of justice in a changing world,” says conference organiser Dr Jolanta Bieliauskaitė. “CEENJ and MRU are united by a non-dogmatic approach to law, a commitment to the broad development of legal thought, and strong scholarly communities. It is therefore highly symbolic that their anniversaries coincide.”

This year’s conference will explore themes such as human dignity and socio-philosophical justice, the resilience of the rule of law in Europe, the foundations of statehood and constitutional authority, legal challenges in the digital and artificial intelligence era, and issues of legal identity and human rights. The conference will conclude with a special discussion dedicated to CEENJ’s twentieth anniversary, reflecting on the network’s achievements and future directions.
