On July 2, the Danish Ambassador Grete Sillasen and Anna Enemark, Regional Director of the Danish Cultural Institute in Riga for the Baltic States and the Baltic Sea Region, who visited Mykolas Romeris University (MRU), presented the priorities and action plans of Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Denmark’s motto during its Presidency of the EU Council is – a strong Europe in a changing world.

During the meeting with MRU Rector Prof. Dr. Inga Žalėnienė and Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Natalija Kaminskienė and Dr. Eglė Malinauskienė, possibilities for cooperation between MRU and the Danish Cultural Institute were discussed, focusing on strengthening democratic values, expanding social research and cultural exchanges that contribute to societal resilience and closer mutual ties among the Baltic Sea region countries.

According to MRU Rector Prof. I. Žalėnienė, cooperation between MRU’s Memory and Historical Justice Centre, which pursues the mission of studying the impact of the memory phenomenon on legal, social, and historical realities, and the Danish Cultural Institute has great potential. One possible joint project discussed was the translation and presentation to Lithuanian and international audiences of a book published in Denmark about the little-known story of a Lithuanian woman who fled to Denmark from Stalin’s repressions.
