From 12 to 16 October 2026, nine political science students from Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) participated in the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) Travelling Seminar “Geopolitics and the Future of Democracy”, hosted by Paris 8 University in France. Throughout the seminar, students explored contemporary challenges to democracy, geopolitical developments, and social inclusion, combining academic lectures with discussions and insights into French political institutions.

The seminar programme included academic lectures, discussions with the international university community, and educational visits. Participants were introduced to Paris 8 University, its academic environment, and the activities and international cooperation opportunities offered by the ERUA Alliance.

Professor Dominique Archambault delivered a lecture on social inclusion policies, while Dr Guilhem Marotte addressed the challenges facing democracy in France and the broader geopolitical context. These sessions encouraged students to critically examine contemporary political developments, the role of democratic institutions, and societal transformations.

An important part of the programme was a meeting with student representatives from Paris 8 University. Participants exchanged perspectives on student life, student representation, and engagement in university activities.

One of the highlights of the seminar was a visit to the French National Assembly (Assemblée nationale), which provided students with an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the French parliamentary system and the functioning of democratic institutions. During their stay in Paris, students also visited renowned cultural landmarks, including the Louvre Museum and the Musée d’Orsay.

ERUA Travelling Seminars offer students valuable opportunities to broaden their academic knowledge in an international environment, explore diverse European perspectives, and develop critical thinking skills. Participation in such initiatives strengthens MRU students’ international experience and encourages their active engagement in discussions about the future of democracy and society in Europe.
