Why this study programme?

The objective of Intellectual Property Law programme is to prepare highly qualified lawyers, knowing the peculiarities of legal protection of intellectual property on the international, European and national levels, able to explain the latest IP law issues and trends, to analyse and deal with legal problems related to exploitation and protection of intellectual property rights. The study programme is performed in English language and gives individuals the opportunity to gain a Master's degree of Law in two higher education institutions. 

This study programme is the first joint programme in Lithuania in the field of Intellectual Property Law carried out in two higher education institutions – Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania) and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine). In 2016 the international education portal „StudyPortals“ has recognized Mykolas Romeris University for its professional lecturers, modern IT network and infrastructure and awarded MRU an International Student Satisfaction Award with an 'Excellent' evaluation.

Intellectual property is an essential factor for business competitiveness. Often overlooked, this asset plays an important role in both the commercial and international development of enterprises. Needless to say, well managed and well protected, intellectual property is a major factor in their competitiveness and growth. Therefore, complex knowledge and understanding of intellectual property law at national and international levels are crucial in order to be able to assist business in almost every aspect of their commercial development and competitive strategy. Thus, this study programme is particularly aimed at teaching the students to understand the complex legal protection of intellectual property in various jurisdictions.

Entry requirements

  • Bachelor's degree of law or an equivalent first university degree with a minimum 3-year study duration;
  • English language proficiency - the level not lower than B2 (following the Common Framework of Reference for Language approved by the Council of Europe). Distant English language level test is organized for those, who do not possess IELTS or TOEFL certificates.

International mobility possibilities

In the first and second semesters students study in Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Kyiv, Ukraine), in the third and fourth semester they continue their studies in Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius, Lithuania). In the end of the fourth semester students return back to Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv where the final examination (state exam) is held.
Students can participate in ERASMUS+ mobility programme as well, which gives a possibility to study at a university abroad for 1 or 2 semesters and do an internship in another country.

Career prospects

Degree holders will be able to work in the public sector (for example, in the European institutions, international institutions, national parliaments, governments, international, regional and national courts, quasi-courts, regulatory agencies, other supranational, state and municipal administration entities, engaged in legal framework architecture, administrative regulation, fighting law infringements or dispute settlement related to intellectual property protection) as well as in private sector (legal consulting service providers, companies working in any business sector and dealing with intellectual property protection), in academic and research institutions.
