NEWS ABOUT PROJECTS' ACTIVITIES

The Project Assessment and recognition of non-formal and informal learning at university studies coordinated by MRU in 2006-2008 was evaluated by CEDEFOP as a sample of good practice. The report of the Project is presented in the European Inventory on Validation of Non-formal and Informal Learning 2010. Country Report: Lithuania and in European Inventory on Validation of Non-formal and Informal Learning 2010. Case Study: Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania). Project results included a thorough analysis of good practice of European and Lithuanian universities, analysis of the procedure of validation of non-formal and informal learning outcomes of La Rochelle University (France), London University and Roehampton University (United Kingdom). The major result of the project was representative research which established the need for validation of non-formal and informal learning in Lithuania, and which was the first research of this type carried out in Lithuania. What is more, handbooks and guide books on validation of such type of learning were developed, the theoretical model of the system of assessment and recognition of non-formal and informal learning for university studies was created, evaluated and approved by international experts, and one of the assessment models – E-portfolio – was pilot tested.

In 2008, having no additional funding MRU introduced validation, i.e. adopted the necessary institutional legal acts introduced a procedure for assessment and recognition of non-formally and informally gained competences and started the process: learning outcome of the first candidates were assessed and competences recognized.

The Project Validation of competences gained through adults' non-formal education in Lithuanian higher education institutions coordinated by MRU in 2012-2014 is implemented. Project results included: MRU 2 assessment handbooks and guidebook on validation of non-formal an informal learning have been updated; academic and administrative staff of 8 Lithuanian higher education institutions (project partner institutions) have been trained. What is more, academic staff from project partner institutions was provided with the possibility to analyse experience in validation of Middlesex University and Westminster Universities (United Kingdom). Project partner institutions (2 universities and 6 colleges) introduced the procedure of assessment of learning outcomes gained through non-formal way; created 24 assessment handbooks (MRU experts evaluated the appropriateness of that handbooks and presented the conclusions and recommendations); attracted its first candidates and fulfilled this procedure; assessed non-formal learning outcomes of 60 candidates (54 candidates assessed positively). Representatives of professional associations and the business sector actively participated in the preparation of handbooks and in the assessment of candidates. Thus, partner institutions are now entitled to enter the network of Lithuanian higher education institutions that are fully prepared to assess learning outcomes gained in the system of adults’ non-formal education, at the workplace, through informal learning and in other learning environments and to bring adults closer to the acquisition of formal higher education qualifications.
