English for Specific Purposes and Korean studies specialization could be compared to a compass. One foot – is a quick and brief step into the professional world, the other - is a steady lead into the new and interesting world of studies and experience.

Specialization of English for Specific Purposes and Second Foreign Language, English for Specific Purposes and Korean studies – unique programme in the context of other Universities.

This specialization provides an opportunity to gain philological education, other specialized abilities (public administration and business), also foreign language and communication skills and offers exclusive academic experience – to study at South Korea for a year while gaining practice in Korean writing, reading and speaking, experiencing modern Korean lifestyle and wide spreading the circle of friends.

→ International studies

Studies are proceeded in the international environment. At the moment at the Institute of Humanitarian Sciences together with Lithuanian students study and the students from Israel, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, China, Japan, Turkey and Norway. Team of the Institute is multicultural as well: together with Lithuanian lecturers, professors from USA, Ireland, France, Spain and Korea give lectures, some of the lectures are given by professors from foreign Universities and specialists from European Union institutions. So English for Specific Purposes and Korean studies specialization students will have a chance to study in international environment and to communicate in foreign languages.

Besides one-year studies at South Korea, students can go abroad for one or two semesters to study after Erasmus+ exchange programme to Universities located in Norway, France, Germany, Spain and other.

What language level is required to enroll to this study programme?

English language studies are started from B1-B2 level which was gain at the school, second foreign language (Korean) is taught from the beginning (A1 level).
The recognition of practical language skills and knowledge is recognized after special evaluation procedure.

What is English language for Specific Purposes?

English language for Specific Purposes is a language that is used in professional, work-based environmental. Students who study this specialization gains communication and language skills (in public administration and business areas) that allows to analyse articles, formulate thoughts in professional manner, create tools of spoken and written communication and actively participate in international communication (to present slides, create official notes and letters, participate in meetings, translate specific texts and etc.)

Korean Studies

English for Specific Purposes and Korean studies specialization allows students to participate in King Sejong Institute’s, located at MRU, Vilnius, activities and after two years of studies students can go to South Korean University surroundings to acknowledge country’s uniqueness and to strengthen language and communication skills.

What is the difference between the study programme and its specialization?

English for Specific Purposes and Korean studies is a specialization of English for specific Purposes and Second Foreign Language.
Specialization studies widespread the number of courses related with Korea. At the third year of study there is a compulsory 1-year longitude studies at South Korea included in the programme.

On the base of agreements made by MRU, the students are given opportunities to go to study to partner Universities in order to widespread knowledge of Korean language, culture, literature and country. The living and travel expenses are covered by the student himself/herself.

Opportunities are being sought for the most talented students through competitive grants for living expenses.

After graduating from this study programme a student:

• Has theoretical knowledge about English and Korean languages’ structure, functionality and the Korean culture;
• Is able to communicate in two foreign languages (English and Korean) in the specific environment;
• Is able to ensure transparent international specialized communication with partners from cooperating institutions;
• Is able to conduct and develop the dialogues in business area between multicultural representatives;

Graduates of this study programme can work at ministries' and municipalities’ international relations sectors, EU institutions, international organisations, new media area, tourism offices, centers of culture, information and education, translation offices, press houses and companies where communicating specialists with foreign language knowledge are needed.

Note: Due to the Covid-19 students have a possibility to complete the first semester online. Seminars and lectures will be broadcasted in accordance with the approved schedule of a specific group. Students will be able to take the midterms and examinations remotely as well. Detailed information and 1st semester schedule will be sent to all accepted students two weeks prior to the start of studies.

Degrees: Second education (grade history / foreign language)
English level: At least a B1 level of English, proven by a certification (IELTS or TOEFL): the certification can be organized by long distance.
