Full-Time study – 1 year (distance learning). 
The schedule of the study subjects is flexible – it is composed so that you have the possibility to study and work. During each semester you will be required to arrive to a study cycle (10 days per cycle). The duration of the study programm is 2 semester (autumn and spring semesters). MBA studies are concluded by completing an international simulation project instead of the Master Thesis.

→ Purpose of the programme 

Purpose of the Basketball Business Administration programme – to develop the understanding of basketball organization leaders and basketball coaches about the basketball organization and team management systems, and to develop a critical appreciation of management theories, tools, and techniques to guide and manage change within the basketball organization more effectively, utilize resources in the decision-making process and develop the ability of basketball coaches to use advanced basketball coaching technologies.

MRU MBA program for leaders is a one-year study program executed closely cooperating with International Basketball University as well as others social and foreign scholarly partners. With highly qualified specialists of various fields as lecturers of the program, an exceptional opportunity is granted to share knowledge and absorb experience not only from the lecturers but also from colleagues – leaders possessing differing experiences. During the studies, great attention is given to self-reflection, therefore, students are faced with more opportunities to meet leaders of other fields, expand the circle of one’s friends and be more involved in the life of the basketball community. The degree of MBA grants the opportunity to become a better leader, as well as, endows soft skills, including teamwork, inspiration to risk, experiment and adequately act in a multicultural environment under different situations.

Jesus Bueno Pascual, NBA Vice President for Europe, Matt Weston, former head of the Australian Basketball League, Ray Smith, professor at Belhaven University, USA; Rutenis Paulauskas and coach Stephen Kairys, dr. Mangirdas Morkunas (more than 9 years of experience in marketing), Assoc. dr. Ekaterina Kartashova (Business Consultant for more than 13 years), Assoc. dr. Egle Malinauskiene (more than 10 years of experience in the field of innovation management), Thomas Berry, professor at DePaul University.

→ Content of Lectures

Basic study subjects will include: Development of basketball organizations, Marketing strategies in basketball, Leadership and basketball team management, Basketball players training technologies, Project management, Finance management in basketball sector, Final project.

Note: Due to the Covid-19 students have a possibility to complete the first semester online. Seminars and lectures will be broadcasted in accordance with the approved schedule of a specific group. Students will be able to take the midterms and examinations remotely as well. Detailed information and 1st semester schedule will be sent to all accepted students two weeks prior to the start of studies.

→ Career Oportunities

The graduates, after graduating from the MRU MBA programme and acquiring the Master's degree, will be able to work as a manager in sports organizations (associations, federations, clubs). The program's focus on the practical application of research and case management will provide effective leadership not only for the sports organization but also for the basketball team. Graduates will have the professional knowledge and skills to evaluate the contents of a basketball coaching process and to pursue a career as a basketball coach.

→ Entry Requirements

• Bachelor degree: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent first university degree (3-year study duration minimum)
• At least 2-year work experience in leading position
• English level: at least a B2 level of English, proven by a certification (IELS or TOEFL). English level evaluation can be organized online.
• Strong motivation (motivational letter and personal interview)
• Letter of recommendation
