MRU-ROSK Consulting Chess Team Wins Silver Medals

April 14-15th, 2018, the MRU-ROSK Consulting Chess Team won silver medals in Lithuania's Chess League Tournament that was held in Kaunas. The Kaunas "Ežerėlis vaivorykštės" Team won gold. Bronze medals went to the Kaunas "Margiris-1" Team.

MRU-ROSK Consulting Chess Team player Tomas Laurušas was the 2nd best chess player, according to points, helping the team to victory.

Before the last stage of the Tournament, the "MRU-ROSK Consulting Team", the Kaunas "Ežerėlis vaivorykštės" Team, along with the Šiauliai SISŽK Team, each had 8 Team points and were at the top of the ratings table.

In the 6th round, the MRU-ROSK Consulting Team faced its most serious challenger - the Kaunas "Ežerėlis vaivorykštės" Team, which has 5 very strong chess players. During the entire match, the MRU-ROSK Consulting Team was behind and forced to catch up. However, MRU chess players managed to even the result and SELL Student Games Champion Vaidas Šetkauskas won an important victory and tied the result. Not long after, the Kaunas team surged ahead. Chess player Tautvydas Vedrickas also played well during this match.

During the final match, MRU chess coach and international Master Vaidas Sakalauskas, after 5 hours of playing, defeated Serbian international Master Stefan Djurič and evened the result.

There were three teams that had 11 Team points. Kaunas "Ežerėlis vaivorykštės" Team and MRU-ROSK Consulting were tied with the same number of points. However, according to a third set of ratings (Berger coefficient), the Kaunas team won and became champions.

The "MRU-ROSK Consulting Team" included the following players: Andrius Brazdžionis, International Master Tomas Laurušas, Vaidas Sakalauskas, Tautvydas Vedrickas, Vaidas Šetkauskas, Andrius Rimeikis, and International Master Oleg Krivonosov.
