Joint Strategic Border Management Programme Kicked Off at MRU

frontex-studentu-grupe-0514 October 2nd, 2017, the joint Master's Degree programme, "Strategic Border Management" 1st module, kicked off at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU).

There are 26 high-level police and border guard institution representatives participating, students from 14 European Union (EU) and international organisations such as Frontex and Europol.

During the first module discussions, students will exchange and talk about their experience in border guard strategic safety and learn about protection of the external border. In addition, they will travel to posts near the Belarus border and to the Border Guard School in Medininkai as well as discuss EU further activities regarding integration of protection of the border.

Achieved results will be used by the European Commission and its agencies and member country border guard institutions.

The programme was initiated by the EU agency Frontex, which noted that not one EU member country had a specialised Master's Degree programme for development of border guards skills.

It was decided to establish a consortium of European universities and begin the joint Master's programme.

In the consortium Lithuania is represented by Mykolas Romeris University.

There is a strict application process. After applicants undergo a special admissions selection procedure, they can study in the programme which is designed for border guard officials from member EU countries with experience.

The programme prepares border guard officials that can work and understand the European context and are noted for competencies that allow to coordinate and respond to challenges to European Union (EU) external border safety.
