Bundestag Member Dr. Lamers Discussed NATO Before Brussels Summit

diskusija-dr-lamers-nato-hearings-1151 May 11th, 2018, Bundestag member Dr. Karl Lamers was at Mykolas Romeris University to discuss "NATO Before the Brussels Summit."

He was joined by distinguished guests on the panel including: Acting President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Seimas member Rasa Juknevičienė, European Parliament member Petras Auštrevičius, Lithuanian Defense Ministry Defense Policy Director Robertas Šapronas, and Vilnius Policy Analyst Institute Sr. analyst Marius Laurinavičius.

The discussion was moderated by MRU Communication Institute Head Assoc. Prof. Virgis Valentinavičius and centered on challenges and security concerns before the Summit.

The next NATO Summit will be held July 11-12th, 2018 in Brussels.

Dr. Lamers said that at the top of the agenda is NATO-Russia relations. He emphasized that NATO and Europe have to cooperate in the area of cyber-security matters.

"The older NATO gets, the stronger it will be," said Lamers adding that next year NATO will celebrate 70 years.

In addition, he said NATO was the "most successful" military and political alliance.

Dr. Lamers also stressed the importance of higher education. "This is the gate for the future - for open societies," he said speaking of universities.
