Law Faculty Prof. Juozas Žilys on Whether Citizens Can Appeal to Constitutional Court
Oct. 24th, MRU Law Faculty Prof. Juozas Žilys appeared on the "Žinių Radijas" radio programme's "Question of the Day" talk show. Prof. Žilys discussed whether ordinary citizens should be given the right to file lawsuits before the Constitutional Court. Currently only Seimas members, judges and in certain cases, the Government and the President, can appeal to the Constitutional Court on issues relating to the Constitution. Prof. Žilys is a Professor in the Law Faculty's Dept. of Constitutional Law.
Law Lecturer Valčiukas Says It's the 3rd Time He's Participated in Annual Constitution Exam
October 19th, MRU Law Faculty lecturer Juozas Valčiukas (in photo) was interviewed by the daily newspaper, "Vilniaus diena" about the annual Constitution exam. Valčiukas told a reporter that it was the third time he participated in the annual exam.  He said that this year's exam was somewhat easier than in earlier years. Oct. 18th, students, scholars and citizens who did well in the first round of the exam, participated in a 2nd round at the Vilnius City Hall building. Winners of the exam will be awarded prizes in a ceremony on Oct. 25th.
Law Assc. Prof. Gutauskas: Students Motivated & Hungry for Knowledge
Oct. 17th, the weekly new magazine "Veidas," published an interview about students in today's Lithuania and talked with MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Aurelijus Gutauskas. He said that students are hungry for knowledge, highly-motivated and on average, more knowledgeable. Gutauskas is an Assoc. Prof. in the Law Faculty and Head of the Criminal Law & Criminology Department.
MRU Chancellor Spurga: Smaller Universities React More Quickly to Change
Oct. 17th, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas" published an article about Lithuania's universities and how competitive they are globally. MRU Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Saulius Spurga (see photo) was interviewed. He said throughout the world, there has not been a great movement to merge universities. Smaller universities react more quickly to changes and are easier to manage, Spurga notes.
MRU Assoc. Prof. Diržytė: Lithuania Needs Positive Thinking
October 17th, the online news website DELFI.lt published an interview with MRU Psychology Dept. Assoc. Prof. Aistė Diržytė about how physical health is impossible without psychological health. Diržytė said that most of all Lithuania needs healthy, positive thinking. Despair and helplessness are the worst psychological states, she added.
Assoc. Prof. Dumbliauskas Discussed Budget, Top Events
October 17th, MRU Assoc. Prof. Vytautas Dumbliauskas appeared on the "Žinių radijas" radio programme, "Events & Commentary," to discuss top news events of the past week. Dumbliauskas with several journalists participated in a roundtable discussion on topics ranging from politics to the budget to arrests of individuals reportedly importing goods to be sold at a Vilnius flea market. Dumbliauskas is an Assoc Prof. in the Faculty of Politics & Management's Dept. of Political Sciences.
MRU's Path as a Private University Being Paved
October 13th, the online news website, DELFI.lt, published an article, "MRU's Path as a Private University Being Paved." A working group of experts reportedly recommends that MRU would not be merged with other Lithuanian universities. It would rather have a status similiar to that of a private university, experts suggested, as there are a larger number of students at MRU paying tuition. The article also stated that MRU's management structure is also different from other universities.
MRU Lecturer Laurinaitis Discusses e-Banking & e-Commerce
October 12th, MRU Banking & Investments Dept. Lecturer Marius Laurinaitis was interviewed on the "Laisvoji Banga" radio's "Time for Decisions" programme on e-Banking and e-Commerce. Laurinaitis cautioned employers and others against taking at face value what they see about a possible future employee on social networks, the internet. Laurinaitis is a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics and Finance Management's Dept. of Banking & Investments.
Dept. Head Aleknonis Discussed Energy Policy & Other Issues
October 3rd, MRU Assoc. Prof. Gintaras Aleknonis participated in a roundtable discussion on the "Žinių radijas" radio show, "Events and Commentary" discussing energy policy and energy issues. Aleknonis is Head of MRU's Dept. of Political Sciences in MRU's Faculty of Politics and Management.
