Law Faculty Prof. Narbekovas Recognized for Research & Awarded St. Christopher Statue
Dec. 21st, the Lithuanian daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas" reports that Mykolas Romeris University Law Faculty Prof. Andrius Narbekovas was the recipient of the Vilnius St. Christopher Statue (Šv. Kristoforo Statulėlė). Narbekovas, a former surgeon, was recognized for research, faith and securing life for the unborn.

MRU Poised to Shape the Future Says Malaysian Academic Prof. Razak
After a visit to Lithuania this month, former Vice-Chancellor of University Sains Malaysia Prof. Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, currently President of the Intl Association of Universities (IAU) said Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) is "poised to shape the future while preserving the country's national heritage." He detailed his Lithuanian experiences in an online Dec. 15th, 2013 article, "Autonomy: The Lithuanian Experience" in Malaysia's online newspaper, "New Straits Times." Law Faculty Professors Agree on Need for Constitution Day Holiday
August 3rd, the daily newspaper, "Respublika," published an interview with MRU Law Faculty professors including Prof. Juozas Žilys (see photo)  regarding the newly-published 1004-page Constitution book, which contains Lithuania's Constitution translated into 13 languages. All the professors agree that October 25th, the day when the Constitution was adopted, should be commemorated as a national holiday.

May 30th, MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Justinas Usonis participated in a discussion on youth employment, during the summer, on the "Laisvoji Banga" radio programme, "Morning Theme." Usonis, an attorney, discussed the ways it is possible for 14-18 year-olds to gain employment in Lithuania and the documents needed.

MRU Grad Student from Jamaica Despite Cold, Loves Lithuania
April 29th, the onlilne daily news portal 15min.lt published an interview with MRU graduate student Keisha LaRaine Ingram from Jamaica. She says that she was told about the bitter cold weather in Lithuania, but survived the winter and despite all has fallen in love with Lithuania. She also praised MRU professors saying that they know how to present information so that everyone will understand, despite cultural differences.

April 23rd, psychologist, MRU Assoc. Prof. Aistė Diržytė appeared on the late nite "Lietuvos Rytas" TV programme, "Nuoga Tiesa" (The Naked Truth). She discussed suicide and the death of the famous Lithuanian actor Vytautas Šapranauskas who committed suicide April 18th, 2013. Diržytė is an Assoc. Law Grad from Slovakia Recommends MRU to All Who Have a Dream
The February 2nd "Studies 2013" supplement in the daily, „Lietuvos Žinios,“ features an interview with MRU Vice-Rector for Education Assoc. Prof. Giedrius Viliunas and MRU Master‘s Degree "EU Law and Governance" programme graduate Juraj Kunak (see photo) from Slovakia. The law programme graduate says studies at MRU helped him land a job in the European Commission in Brussels. Kunak is fluent in not only English, but also Arabic and Lithuanian.

Study Abroad - at MRU's New Business & Media School
Jan. 31st, the "Vilniaus Diena" weekly newspaper's "Kur Studijuoti?" (Where to Study) magazine published an interview with MRU Prof. Aelita Skaržauskienė, the future head of the "Business and Media School" (BMS) at MRU. Jamaican Student Getting Accustomed to Quiet & Snow in Vilnius
January 5th, the daily Lithuanian newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas" published a full-page interview with MRU Master's Degree student Keisha Ingram from Jamaica, who noted that the snow in Vilnius is whiter and cleaner than that in the U.S. or U.K. Her first impression of Vilnius was of a city full of history and culture, where fellow travelers on a bus don't converse and there is no loud music blaring from passing cars.

Judge/Law Prof. Valančius Re-elected IAJ Vice-President
Nov. 15th, online news website DELFI.lt, reported that Law Faculty Prof. and Lithuania's Supreme Administrative Court Justice Virgilijus Valančius was re-elected Vice-President of the International Association of Judges (IAJ) during a meeting in Washington, D.C. About 300 judges from all corners of the globe attended IAJ's annual meeting.

Law Faculty Prof. Žilys: Lithuania's Constitution Has Remained Stable

August 16th, the weekly "Žmonės" (People) magazine dedicated a four-page spread to London Games Olympic champion canoeist Jevgenijus Šuklinas who is a MRU student. Šuklinas won a silver medal in the Men's Canoe Single's Finals 200 m event at London's Olympics.

Doctoral Student's Dreams Include Opening Dolphin Museum
March 22nd, the daily newspaper "Respublika's" weekend supplement, "Laisvalaikis" (Leisure) featured the dolphin collection of MRU Environmental Policy Dept. staffer Aušra Šaltenytė. Šaltenytė's (see photo) dolphin collection is so huge that the 29-year-old MRU doctoral student plans to open a museum to house the more than 850 different statues, plates, mugs and other memorabilia devoted solely to dolphins. Now her collection includes souvenirs from 27 countries. One day she hopes to be able to swim side by side with the dolphins.

MRU's All-Nite Library Packs in Students
January 2nd, the online news website www.lrt.lt reports that MRU's Library is open all night (until 5 a.m.) for students so they can study and conduct research. In the article, MRU Library Director Jurgita Levickienė says almost every available seat is taken during the night hours. Students also can check out books at the self-serve computer check-out stand located near the entrance to the library. Now MRU is the only library in Lithuania, offering access to stacks and allowing check-out of books, that is open until the early morning hours.

MRU Assoc. Prof. Aleknonis Discussed Legacy of the late Czech President Vaclav Havel
December 19th, MRU Assoc. Prof. Gintaras Aleknonis appeared on the "Žinių radijas" programme, "Events and Commentary" and discussed the legacy of Czech President Vaclav Havel, who passed away Dec. 18th at the age of 75. Aleknonis said that while watching a Czech news programme after Havel's death, he was struck by the words of one of Havel's neighbors. "It's a pity that Havel died," the neighbor said, "because he really had still more to say." Aleknonis is the Head of MRU's Dept. of Political Sciences.

Vice-Rector Vaitkevičius Discusses MRU's International Activities
November 30th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos žinios," published an interview with MRU's Vice-Rector for Development and International Relations Stasys Vaitkevičius, Ph.D. He discussed the implementation of a joint doctoral study program, "Law Science & Technology" and international activities at MRU. Those include the recent International Assn of Universities' (IAU) self-analysis ISAS program, which positively evaluated MRU's internationalization strategies. Also he said MRU is the 1st university in Lithuania to coordinate an "Erasmus Mundus Partnership for Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova" project which unites 21 institutions of higher education in Europe. The 4-yr. project has a budget that totals 3 million Euros.

German Statesman Dr. Lamers Awarded MRU Honorary Degree
November 28th, the Lithuanian TV nightly news programme announced that German statesman Karl A. Lamers was awarded an honorary Mykolas Romeris University degree in a ceremony held on campus. Oct. 20th, 2011, MRU's Senate agreed that Lamers be conferred the honorary degree. He was recognized for his meaningful role in developing the international studies and research sphere, strengthening university autonomy and assuring a high quality of studies and research. Lamers is now the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Law Faculty Prof. Juozas Žilys on Whether Citizens Can Appeal to Constitutional Court
Oct. 24th, MRU Law Faculty Prof. Juozas Žilys appeared on the "Žinių Radijas" radio programme's "Question of the Day" talk show. Prof. Žilys discussed whether ordinary citizens should be given the right to file lawsuits before the Constitutional Court. Law Lecturer Valčiukas Says It's the 3rd Time He's Participated in Annual Constitution Exam
October 19th, MRU Law Faculty lecturer Juozas Valčiukas (in photo) was interviewed by the daily newspaper, "Vilniaus diena" about the annual Constitution exam. Valčiukas told a reporter that it was the third time he participated in the annual exam.  He said that this year's exam was somewhat easier than in earlier years. Oct. 18th, students, scholars and citizens who did well in the first round of the exam, participated in a 2nd round at the Vilnius City Hall building. Winners of the exam will be awarded prizes in a ceremony on Oct. 25th.

MRU Conducted Research on How Legal Regulation Affects the Work of Physicians
July 19th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios," reported that Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) in conjunction with the Lithuanian Physicians' Association, conducted research seeking to determine the effect of legal regulation on the work of physicians. There were 2,440 doctors surveyed. Research determined that thousands of patients clog up lines waiting to see doctors, because doctors apparently seek to protect themselves from possible legal and other type of retribution.

April 23rd, the online news website www.delfi.lt reports in an article on tardy professors that MRU's electronic card entry system helps to safeguard university property. In addition, it also helps avoid misunderstandings regarding lost or misplaced auditorium and lecture hall keys. Students or lecturers also can quickly find out which auditoriums are free and make use of the empty space. April 20th, the daily newspaper, "15min" published commentary by MRU Assoc. Prof. Vytautas Dumbliauskas on the election of Vilnius' new mayor, Artūras Zuokas. Dumbliauskas says although Zuokas is a charismatic politician, voters will not be happy with his election because it was on his watch that almost all municipal enterprises, which oversee high-rise buildings in the city, were privatized. Students at MRU With More than 3 Academic Debts Will Face Suspension of Studies
April 5th, the online news website in an article on students, academic debts and university explusion policies, quotes MRU's Info Officer Kęstutis Saldžiūnas. He said that at the beginning of the year, tuition-paying students and those on scholarships will be suspended at the end of the semester, if they have more than 3 academic debts. MRU Prof. Antanas Buračas Comments on Banks & Treatment of Clients
February 4th, academic and MRU Professor Antanas Buračas comments on Lithuania's banks in the daily newspaper, "Respublika." Buračas says that banks only "formally" pay attention to smaller clients because they don't make much of a profit with this group. He said that this contrasts to the high esteem such clients are held in Western countries where plain Joes are protected by bank regulations and rules. October 22nd, the Internet portal newspaper "lrytas.lt" reports that Mykolas Romeris University's Young Financier's Academy (JaFA) begins its 6th academic year. Opening of the Academy took place on MRU's campus on October 23rd at 10 a.m. MRU Business Economics Dept. Assoc. Prof. Rimvydas Jasinavičius said the goal of the Academy is to develop the financial intellect of youth and foster leadership qualities.

July 15th, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Bronius Kuzmickas discussed the importance of the Battle of Žalgiris (Battle of Tannenberg), in an article in "Lietuvos Žinios." The Battle of Žalgiris was fought July 15th, 1410. This year Lithuania marked the 600th anniversary of the event. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, aligned with the Kingdom of Poland, defeated the Teutonic Knights.

Lietuvos Žinios: Lustration Commission Head Prof. Urmonas Says Fewer Cases Make It to Court
Lustration Commission Head and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Professor Algimantas Urmonas in the July 15th issue of "Lietuvos Žinios" said he isn't very happy with the Commission's results. "Nothing's come out of the lustration process," Prof. Urmonas said in the front-page article titled, "The Commission Feels Useless." He said the Commission hasn't been taking cases to court lately. In fact, Urmonas said he doesn't believe it's still possible to actually determine which persons collaborated with the KGB. Prof. Urmonas is Head of MRU's Dept. of Administrative Law & Procedure.

Master's Degree Applicants Rush to Sign Agreements with Mykolas Romeris University, writes MRU's Public Information Officer Kęstutis Saldžiūnas in the July 13th issue of the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Žinios." Applicants have until July 14th to sign agreements. MRU is one of the leading higher ed institutions known for its Master's Degree programmes.
