RADIO: MRU Law Faculty Lecturer on the Trail of Fragrance
December 28th, MRU Criminal Law and Criminology Department Lecturer Mantas Liesis gave a lecture on "Fragrance as a Cultural Phenomenon" which was part of a series of lectures on Lithuanian Radio. In 2008 he defended his doctoral dissertation on euthanasia. Fragrance is a personal hobby of Liesis and he has been interested in perfume since his youth. He has written articles about fragrances in the Lithuanian press and is preparing a research article dealing with the topic.

Judge Egidijus Jarašiūnas - A Professor of Irreproachable Character writes "Veidas"
December 27th, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas," devoted a full-page article about Mykolas Romeris University's (MRU) former Law Faculty Dean Prof. Egidijus Jarašiūnas, who was appointed earlier this year as a Judge of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. The article quotes Justice Ministry Vice-Minister Tomas Vaitkevičius as saying that Jarašiūnas is a professor of "irreproachable character." From 2007-2010 Jarašiūnas was MRU's Law Faculty Dean.

December 26th, the online news website, "www.DELFI.lt" quotes MRU's Psychology Department lecturer Natalija Norvilė in the article, "Why Are Lithuanians so Fond of Russian Films." Norvilė says Russian films are attractive to the generation of 40-60 year-olds because they remind people of their youth-first job, first love and food (such as ice-cream) and when they danced the twist.

Pentathlete & MRU Graduate Zadneprovskis Retiring from Sports
December 23rd, the daily newspaper, "Respublika," has devoted an entire page to an interview with Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Faculty graduate and pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovskis. He took the bronze in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and due to health problems, must retire. Zadneprovskis has a Master's Degree in Law.

December 21st, MRU Psychology Department Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist Sandra Birbilaitė discusses how cancer affects the lives of patients and their relations with loved ones in an interview in the daily, "Lietuvos Žinios." She said that cancer patients have to learn to change their "thinking" and understand that they haven't become bad human beings due to their illness.

MRU Law Faculty Graduate and Olympic Medal Winner Zadneprovskis Retiring from Sport
December 10th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas," reports that Mykolas Romeris University graduate and Olympic medal winner pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovskis, 36, has decided to retire from sport. Due to health problems, Zadneprovskis decided to retire from the Vilnius Mounted Police force and plans to enter politics. He won the bronze in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and is a graduate of MRU's Law Faculty.

December 7th, the daily "Lithuanian Rytas" Style magazine, "Stilius" voted Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Edita Žiobienė 2010 Woman of the Year. Žiobienė, 37, is Lithuania's Children's Rights Ombudsman and an Associate Professor in MRU's Department of Constitutional Law. She has been teaching Constitutional Law for the last decade.

Three MRU Students are Sambo Championship Winners

November 18th, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Faculty Professor Justinas Žilinskas on pg. 4 in the daily, "Vilniaus Diena," comments on a proposed change in the Law on Citizenship. It would allow those Lithuanians living in EU and NATO countries to have dual citizenship. Buračas is quoted as saying that at one time, international banks freely handed out all kinds of loans, but now they do not want to divide up losses with clients. Their goal is to at least reduce the number of impending bankruptcies. October 22nd, MRU Chancellor Saulius Spurga participated in a discussion, led by host Tomas Dapkus, on the Lithuanian Radio programme, "Akiračiai," on the meaning of the Nobel Prize. Swedish chemist and innovator Alfred Nobel, who held over 300 different patents including for dynamite, was born on Oct. 21st, 1833. October 5th, the daily "Lietuvos Rytas," writes that MRU student Deimantė Bubelytė, 20, was crowned October 2nd "Miss Princess of the World" in a beauty pageant held in the Czech city of Prague. What's been done for the unity of the energy sector? Nothing," says Prof. Buračas in the half-page newspaper interview. MRU Student Gritė Maruškevičiūtė Crowned "Miss Lithuania 2010" August 27th in Festive Ceremony
Mykolas Romeris University 3rd-yr. Law & Management student Gritė Maruškevičiūtė, 21, was crowned "Miss Lithuania 2010" in a gala festive ceremony held in Vilnius on Aug. 27th. So writes the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Rytas" in its Saturday, August 28th edition. Maruškevičiūtė also wowed TV viewers and was awarded the "Miss Public" prize. She will travel to China in October to participate in the "Miss World 2010" beauty paegant.

Lietuvos Rytas: MRU's Honorary Doctor - Polish President Komorowski Last Week Vacationed in Lithuania
August 24th, the daily "Lietuvos Rytas," reports in a front page article that Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, who is also MRU's Honorary Doctor, vacationed in Lithuania's Curonian Spit. Komorowski's parents hail from Lithuania. He vacationed in the resort town of Nida, with his wife, Anna. In 2008, the MRU Senate bestowed the tile of Doctor Honoris Causa to Komorowski, for his role in strengthening democracy, cherishing democratic values and developing neighborly relations.

August 12th, the daily newspaper Vilniaus Diena reports that Mykolas Romeris University dorms are among the newest and cleanest in Vilnius. MRU can offer dorm rooms to about 65% of those desiring or 1,295 students. Students pay from 120-210 Litai per month for a space in a dorm room.

Daily Newspaper "Lietuvos Žinios" Reports MRU Will Not Have 2nd Round of Admissions
August 6th, the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Žinios" reports that Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) will not have a 2nd round of admissions. In the article by Kęstutis Saldžiūnas, it is stated that unlike other universities, MRU will not be announcing an additional round of admissions. Even during the time of crisis, students are choosing MRU for studies. In the fall about 6,000 youth will begin studies at MRU in Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree programmes.

Professor Aistė Diržytė spoke about the rigors of old age on the Lithuanian Radio programme, "Kasdienybės kultūroje" (Everyday Culture). MRU Associate Professor Guogis Interviewed by Swedish National Radio
July 29th, Swedish National Radio (Sveriges Radio) conducted an interview with Mykolas Romeris University Public Administration Department Associate Prof. Arvydas Guogis in Stockholm for the radio's Russian Language service. Guogis participated in the World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) held in Stockholm July 26th-31st. Guogis compared the social sciences in Lithuania and Sweden and discussed the direction of development in social policy noting especially changes in social protection.

July 29th, Lithuania's radio news station, "Žinių Radijas," announced that the 4th Annual Conference of International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry, "Virtue and Economic Crises," will begin at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). Prof. Leonas Papirtis participated in the Lithuanian radio programme, "Akiračiai" discussing Lithuania's Civil Code, which was approved a decade ago on July 18th, 2000. July 15th, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Bronius Kuzmickas discussed the importance of the Battle of Žalgiris (Battle of Tannenberg), in an article in "Lietuvos Žinios." The Battle of Žalgiris was fought July 15th, 1410. This year Lithuania marked the 600th anniversary of the event. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, aligned with the Kingdom of Poland, defeated the Teutonic Knights.

Lietuvos Žinios: Lustration Commission Head Prof. Urmonas Says Fewer Cases Make It to Court
Lustration Commission Head and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Professor Algimantas Urmonas in the July 15th issue of "Lietuvos Žinios" said he isn't very happy with the Commission's results. "Nothing's come out of the lustration process," Prof. Urmonas said in the front-page article titled, "The Commission Feels Useless." He said the Commission hasn't been taking cases to court lately. In fact, Urmonas said he doesn't believe it's still possible to actually determine which persons collaborated with the KGB. Prof. Urmonas is Head of MRU's Dept. of Administrative Law & Procedure.
