May 24th, MRU Law Faculty Lecturer Mantas Liesis participated in a series of Lithuanian radio's "Radio Lectures" and gave a lecture on "Euthanasia in the Throes of Discussion." Liesis is a lecturer in MRU's Law Faculty's Department of Criminal Law & Criminology.

ANNUAL VEIDAS RATINGS: MRU Rated #1 in Terms of Internationalism
May 23rd, the weekly magazine "Veidas" publishing its annual university ratings for Lithuania, ranked MRU in first place for international relations, exchanges and programmes taught in foreign languages. There were 19 universities evaluated. Overall, MRU came in 3rd among institutions of higher education in Lithuania.

MRU Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Saulius Spurga Discussed Top Events of Past Week - May 23rd
May 23rd, MRU Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Saulius Spurga discussed the past week's top events on the "Žinių radijas" programme, "Events and Commentary." Among the topics discussed was the situation in Belarussia with rising prices, the Seimas and a possible reduction in the number of members following a drop in the number of citizens to 3 million. Spurga is an Assoc. Prof. in MRU's Dept. of Political Sciences.

MRU Political Sciences Dept. Lecturer Warning that Lithuania Becoming Right-wing Radical
May 22nd, the online news website, "www.DELFI.lt" reports that minorities in Lithuania are becoming increasingly disappointed with life in Lithuania. The article quotes MRU Political Sciences Dept. Lecturer Romualdas Kacevičius saying that 3 types of radicalism are creeping up: left-wing radicalism, right-wing radicalism and ethnoradicalism.

MRU Vice-Rector for Research Žalėnienė: MRU Academic Journals Available in Digital & Paper Form
May 16th, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas" published an article about e-Books and interviewed MRU Vice-Rector for Research Assoc. Prof. Inga Žalėnienė. She says that older MRU academics opt for published books, while the  younger generation chooses the electronic, digital version. MRU officials decided on a dual publishing model: all academic journals are available in digital and published form. MRU students can already read the university's published e-books for free online.

May 16th, MRU Lecturer Alvydas Medalinskas appeared on the Žinių radijas radio programme, "Events & Commentary" to discuss the past week's top events. Among topics discussed were demographic changes in Lithuania and the minimal wage. Medalinskas is a lecturer in MRU's Dept. of Political Sciences.

MRU Prof. Bandzevičienė Says Motivation Key When Hiring Employees
May 13th, MRU Professor and psychologist Rita Bandzevičienė appeared on the "Žinių radijas" radio programme, "Business Academy" (Verslo Akademija) to discuss the most important traits to look for when hiring new employees. Bandzevičienė said motivation is an important factor. She is a professor in MRU's Dept. of Psychology.

Assoc. Prof. Černiauskas: Turkish Officials Considering Whether to Send Specialists to Study at MRU
May 10th, MRU Economics Dept. Assoc. Prof. Gediminas Černiauskas (see photo) spoke about the May 10th conference on Turkey underway at MRU on the Lithuanian radio programme, "Ryto Garsai." Černiauskas said the conference, "Surviving the Global Economic Crisis: Turkey as a Role Model," is being held at MRU because Turkish University academics are considering sending some of their specialists to Lithuania-to MRU, for further education. "This (conference) is an exchange of information," he said because representatives of the prime minister, central bank reps and academics from Turkish universities will participate.

MRU Rector Prof. Pumputis Participates in Discussion on the Future of Lithuania's Universities
May 9th, the weekly current events magazine "Veidas," published an article: "Lithuania's Universities Will Have to Compete in the Global Market or Shut Down." MRU Rector Professor Alvydas Pumputis and MRU Senate Chairman Professor Vytautas Pakalniškis were interviewed and participated in a discussion along with other university rectors.

May 9th, MRU Assoc. Prof. Gintaras Aleknonis (see photo) discussed and analyzed the past week's top news and events on the "Žinių radijas" radio programme "Events & Commentary." Topics included Libya and closer to home, implementing cash registers in the food & fruit markets in Lithuania. Aleknonis is Head of MRU's Dept. of Political Sciences.

MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Audrius Bitinas: Retirement Age Should be Increased
May 9th, MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Audrius Bitinas published an article in the online news website, "www.DELFI.lt" on pension reform where he discusses increasing the retirement age in Lithuania. He said that experts and EU institutions mention increasing the age, but that citizens should know how this will affect their work and future pension. Bitinas is an Assoc. Prof. in MRU's Dept. of Labour Law & Social Security and a Vice-minister in the Ministry of Social Security and Labour.

May 6th, MRU Law Faculty Lecturer Eglė Kavoliūnaitė-Ragauskienė discussed a draft proposal of a family policy law in a discussion on the "Žinių radijas" radio programme "Choosing Family." Kavoliūnaitė-Ragauskienė is a Lecturer in the Law Faculty's Dept. of Labour Law and Social Security.

MRU Lecturer Valainis on the Ways Men & Women Differ in their Views Towards Marriage
May 5th, the online website "DELFIgyvenimas" has reprinted an article, "My Big Fat Lithuanian Wedding 1" from the psychology magazine "Aš ir psichologija." The article quotes MRU Lecturer, psychologist Mykolas Valainis on the way men and women differ in viewing marriage. Men consider marriage as giving up freedom in the name of love. Women look at marriage as a guarantee of security. Valainis is a lecturer in the Social Policy Faculty's Dept. of Psychology.

MRU's Women's Basketball Team Awarded Bronze Medals in LSKL Championships
May 4th, the online news website www.DELFI.lt reports that MRU's Women's Basketball Team won bronze medals in the LSKL Student League Championships. Medals were awarded in a special ceremony held in Kaunas May 4th.

May 2nd, MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Audrius Bitinas discussed pension reform and changes at SODRA, the State Social Insurance Fund, on the Žinių radijas programme, "The Real Motive" (Tikrasis Motyvas.) Bitinas is a Vice-Minister in the Social Security and Labour Ministry and an Assoc. Prof. in the Law Faculty's Dept. of Labour Law & Social Security.
