MRU Prof. Buračas Discusses How Far-off Uprisings in Africa Affect Lithuanians
February 26th, MRU Professor academic Antanas Buračas (see photo) is quoted in an article in the online website "DELFI.lt" about the effect of upheavals in Africa on Lithuania. Prof. Buračas says that rising oil prices are one result of the uprisings. In addition, he pointed out that it should become much cheaper to vacation in Egypt. Buračas is a professor in MRU's Dept. of Banking & Investments.

MRU Criminal Procedure Head Raimundas Jurka On What to Release in Pre-trial Investigations
March 26th, MRU Criminal Procedure Head Assoc. Prof. Raimundas Jurka, an attorney, was interviewed by the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Žinios," on pre-trial investigations and new recommendations issued by the Prosecutor's Office outlining what and what not to release. Assoc. Prof. Jurka says the recommendations are not specific and there are no criteria indicating what info is considered important to the public.

MRU Biolaw Dept. Lecturer Špokienė Discusses Rare Diseases & Their Treatment
February 22nd, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios," published a half-page interview with MRU Biolaw Department Lecturer Indrė Špokienė, Ph.D., (see photo) on rare diseases and their treatment. Špokienė said most of the diseases are hereditary and include certain forms of cancer.

MRU Prof. Antanas Kulakauskas: Only About 5% Citizens Get Involved Solving Municipal Issues
February 21st, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas," published an article on municipal self-rule with extensive quotes from MRU Professor Antanas Kulakauskas. He says citizens in Lithuania don't have the conditions to control local governments. Therefore, only about 5% of citizens tend to get involved solving municipal issues. Kulakauskas is a political scientist and a professor in MRU's Faculty of Politics & Management's Department of Political Sciences.

MRU's Civil Process Dept. Head Stauskienė on The Price of Taking Legal Advice From Shysters
February 10th, attorney and MRU Civil Process Dept. Head Egidija Stauskienė was interviewed about problems, when obtaining legal advice from shysters in an article that appeared in the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios."  She said as a practicing attorney, she has come face to face with the problem. She was forced to "redo" legal documents prepared by such legal "consultants". Stauskienė points out that while attorneys abide by a Code of Ethics and must inform clients of consequences and legal risk, consultants are not obligated to do so.

Speaker of Seimas Degutienė in Baku: Azeris Know and Are Studying at MRU
February 9th, Lithuania's Seimas Speaker Irena Degutienė (see photo) in an interview with "Žinių radijas," on the programme, "Pozicija," mentioned that amongst universities known to Azeris is Mykolas Romeris University. "(Mykolas) Romeris (university) is somewhat familiar, because there are 18 people studying from Azerbaijan (at MRU)," she said. Degutienė is on an official visit to Azerbaijan and is accompanied by a delegation of Lithuanian businessmen.

February 7th, MRU Assoc. Prof. Arvydas Guogis discusses the declining number of voters choosing to support social democrats in elections in Europe in the online news website "www.DELFI.lt". In 2011, social democrats were the ruling party in five EU-countries, writes Guogis in the article titled, "What does Lithuania Need From Social democrats?" Guogis is an Assoc. MRU Prof. Antanas Buračas Comments on Banks & Treatment of Clients
February 4th, academic and MRU Professor Antanas Buračas comments on Lithuania's banks in the daily newspaper, "Respublika." Buračas says that banks only "formally" pay attention to smaller clients because they don't make much of a profit with this group. He said that this contrasts to the high esteem such clients are held in Western countries where plain Joes are protected by bank regulations and rules. If a person doesn't understand the risk, then a bank has to explain everything or cover losses, Buračas said. He is a professor in MRU's Dept. of Banking  & Investments.

India's Ambassador Interviewed on Why Lithuania was Chosen for New Chair of Indian Studies
February 3rd, the online news website portal, "15min.lt" has published an interview with India's Ambassador J.E. Deepak Vohra titled, "Don't Expect to See Thriving Islands In A Sea of Poverty." In the article the Ambassador says that a Chair of Indian Studies will be established at MRU from Sept. 1st and it will be the 1st such Center in the Baltic countries. "The University and its CEO (Rector Pumputis) made an impression," Vohra said explaining why MRU was chosen for the Chair.

MRU Rector Pumputis: In Future, All Our Programmes will be Joint Programmes with Universities Abroad
February 3rd, the online news website "delfi.lt" published an article on the Studies Fair quoting Mykolas Romeris University Rector Prof. A. Pumputis on future plans. Rector Pumputis said that in the near future, "all our programmes will be joint with universities (abroad), and a person, completing that study programme will get a diploma from 2-3 universities."

India's Ambassador Calls Agreement to Set up Chair of Indian Studies at MRU "Historic"
February 2nd, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios," has published an article by Kęstutis Saldžiūnas on establishment of a Chair of Indian Studies at MRU. India's Ambassador J.E. Deepak Vohra called the agreement "historic." An Indian professor will arrive at MRU in September and begin lectures.

February 1st, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Arūnas Augustinaitis participated in a live "Žinių radijas" radio discussion on the media. Participants discussed what they said is an alarming Jan. 27th Vilnius District court decision to fine an editor for comments he made about a presidential candidate during the election season. Augustinaitis is a Professor in MRU's Social Informatics Faculty's Department of Electronic Business.
