LIETUVOS ŽINIOS: Mykolas Romeris University - a Francophone University Since 2004
December 28th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios," writes about Mykolas Romeris University's (MRU) close ties with French universities and that MRU is a Francophone University since 2004. The article, the "European Identity" Project at Mykolas Romeris University," also mentions MRU Assoc. Professor Povilas Aleksandravičius. (In PHOTO: MRU Assoc. Prof. P. RADIO: MRU Law Faculty Lecturer on the Trail of Fragrance
December 28th, MRU Criminal Law and Criminology Department Lecturer Mantas Liesis gave a lecture on "Fragrance as a Cultural Phenomenon" which was part of a series of lectures on Lithuanian Radio. In 2008 he defended his doctoral dissertation on euthanasia. Fragrance is a personal hobby of Liesis and he has been interested in perfume since his youth. He has written articles about fragrances in the Lithuanian press and is preparing a research article dealing with the topic.

Judge Egidijus Jarašiūnas - A Professor of Irreproachable Character writes "Veidas"
December 27th, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas," devoted a full-page article about Mykolas Romeris University's (MRU) former Law Faculty Dean Prof. Egidijus Jarašiūnas, who was appointed earlier this year as a Judge of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. The article quotes Justice Ministry Vice-Minister Tomas Vaitkevičius as saying that Jarašiūnas is a professor of "irreproachable character." From 2007-2010 Jarašiūnas was MRU's Law Faculty Dean.

MRU Assoc. Prof. Aleknonis Reviews the Year's Political Events During Roundtable TV Discussion
December 27th, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Assoc. Prof. Gintaras Aleknonis participated in Lithuanian TV's roundtable discussion on political news and events on the programme, 'Week in Review," („Savaitės atgarsiai“). The discussion centered on the building of a new nuclear plant and reviewing events in the parliament, the Seimas. Aleknonis is an associate professor in MRU's Department of Political Sciences.

December 28th, legal adviser to President Dalia Grybauskaitė and MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Solveiga Cirtautienė appeared on "Žinių Radijas" programme, "Position" (Pozicija). Cirtautienė called the fall session of Seimas a constructive and intensive work period. Cirtautienė is an Assoc. Prof. in MRU's Civil and Commercial Law Dept.

MRU Psychology Dept. Lecturer Norvilė on Why Lithuanians are so Fond of Russian Film
December 26th, the online news website, "www.DELFI.lt" quotes MRU's Psychology Department lecturer Natalija Norvilė in the article, "Why Are Lithuanians so Fond of Russian Films." Norvilė says Russian films are attractive to the generation of 40-60 year-olds because they remind people of their youth-first job, first love and food (such as ice-cream) and when they danced the twist.

December 23rd, Children's Rights Ombudsman & MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Edita Žiobienė discussed children's custody battles on the "Žinių Radijas" radio programme, "Serving the People," (Kad valdžia tarnautų žmonėms). Žiobienė is an Assoc. Prof. in MRU's Dept. of Constitutional Law.

Pentathlete & MRU Graduate Zadneprovskis Retiring from Sports
December 23rd, the daily newspaper, "Respublika," has devoted an entire page to an interview with Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Faculty graduate and pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovskis. He took the bronze in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and due to health problems, must retire. Zadneprovskis has a Master's Degree in Law.

MRU Psychology Dept. Lecturer Birbilaitė on How Cancer Affects Relations with Loved Ones
December 21st, MRU Psychology Department Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist Sandra Birbilaitė discusses how cancer affects the lives of patients and their relations with loved ones in an interview in the daily, "Lietuvos Žinios." She said that cancer patients have to learn to change their "thinking" and understand that they haven't become bad human beings due to their illness.

Mykolas Romeris University Improving Internal Management
December 21st, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Žinios," published an article, "Mykolas Romeris University improving Internal Management," dealing with a European project encouraging life-long learning and internal management. Special qualification/training courses will be organized for 80 individuals from MRU's Council, as well as Councils of Faculties and administrative staff to improve competencies.

December 21st, MRU Lecturer Selemonas Paltanavičius talked about the shortest day of the year (today) and weather conditions with a group of experts on the issue on the Lithuanian LRT radio programme, "Weighing In." Paltanavičius is a lecturer in MRU's Department of Environmental Policy in the Faculty of Politics and Management.

December 16th, Mykolas Romeris University Political Sciences Dept. Prof. Andrius Bielskis spoke on "Žinių Radijas," programme, "Question of the Day," regarding taxes on alcohol, lengthening hours of alcohol sale and the influence of the Catholic Church. Bielskis is a professor in MRU's Faculty of Politics and Management, the Department of Political Sciences.

RECORD-BREAKER: MRU Basketball Player Eimantas Bendžius Hits 15 Three-Pointers!
December 15th, the daily Lithuanian "Lietuvos Rytas," reports in a quarter-page article on MRU Basketball player Eimantas Bendžius' successful series of 15 three-pointers during the Dec. 13th game in Kaunas. The MRU basketball team won 121-85 against the Agricultural University of Lithuania.

Record-breaker MRU Basketball Player Bendžius Scores 53 points in Dec. 13th Game
December 14th, the online news website "lrytas.lt" reports that MRU basketball player Eimantas Bendžius scored 53 points in the Dec. 13th game and thus reached a new record in Lithuania's Student Basketball League (LSKL). MRU won 121-85 against the Kaunas-based Lithuanian University of Agriculture.

December 13th, the weekly news magazine, "Veidas," published an article about Mykolas Romeris University, written by Kęstutis Saldžiūnas, highlighting the various activities at MRU including the Investor's Club and Young Financier's Academy. MRU 4th year student Andrius Balčiūnas is quoted as saying in the article: "Everything I need for studies, I get (at MRU)."

MRU Psychology Dept. Professor Rita Bandzevičienė Discusses Drug Addiction
December 11th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas," quotes Mykolas Romeris University professor Rita Bandzevičienė on drug addiction. A person can change and overcome drug addiction only when the internal desire to change is true and  sincere, Bandzevičienė is quoted as saying. She is a professor in MRU's Dept. of Psychology.

December 11th, the online news website, DELFI.lt, published the comments of MRU's Psychology Dept. Lecturer Natalija Norvilė on why people steal. The article was titled, "Found a Huge Sum of Money - What to Do?" Some psychologists, Norvilė said,  regard the "privatizing" of other people's property as a hidden sign of aggression.

MRU Law Faculty Graduate and Olympic Medal Winner Zadneprovskis Retiring from Sport
December 10th, the daily newspaper, "Lietuvos Rytas," reports that Mykolas Romeris University graduate and Olympic medal winner pentathlete Andrejus Zadneprovskis, 36, has decided to retire from sport. Due to health problems, Zadneprovskis decided to retire from the Vilnius Mounted Police force and plans to enter politics. He won the bronze in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and is a graduate of MRU's Law Faculty.

December 7th, the Chairman of Mykolas Romeris University's (MRU) Council Rimas Varkulevičius, participated in a discussion on higher education on the "Žinių Radijas" radio programme, "Question of the Day." The discussion centered on why employers in Lithuania are dissatisfied with the quality of higher education.

MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Professor Žiobienė - Voted Woman of the Year 2010
December 7th, the daily "Lithuanian Rytas" Style magazine, "Stilius" voted Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Edita Žiobienė 2010 Woman of the Year. Žiobienė, 37, is Lithuania's Children's Rights Ombudsman and an Associate Professor in MRU's Department of Constitutional Law. She has been teaching Constitutional Law for the last decade.

MRU Recognized for Creating Opportunities for Athletes to Study and Seek Olympic Heights
December 3rd, the daily "Lietuvos Rytas," has published a news item about an Olympic Honorary medal awarded to MRU Rector Professor Alvydas Pumputis for creating opportunities for the best athletes of Lithuania to study and seek Olympic heights. The news item, "Recognized for Support to Olympic Athletes" features a photo of Lithuania's National Olympic Committee President Artūras Poviliūnas, shaking hands with MRU's Rector A. Pumputis, after the Rector was awarded the medal.

MRU Vice-Rector Viliūnas Calls Buying/Selling of Theses "Scandalous"
December 1st, MRU's Vice-Rector for Education Giedrius Viliūnas was interviewed by a reporter from the Lithuanian Television (LTV) programme, "Investigative Report" (Žurnalistinis tyrimas) on the buying and selling of Master's Theses. Viliūnas called the situation "scandalous" adding it was a result of a much higher number of students in universities today compared to a decade ago.

December 1st, MRU Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Aurelijus Gutauskas appeared on the Lithuanian Television (LTV) programme, "Investigative Report" (Žurnalistinis tyrimas), to discuss plagiarism by university students. The topic, "Writing Theses for Cash," is a problem many Lithuanian universities must address today.
