MRU Associate Professor Guogis Interviewed by Swedish National Radio
July 29th, Swedish National Radio (Sveriges Radio) conducted an interview with Mykolas Romeris University Public Administration Department Associate Prof. Arvydas Guogis in Stockholm for the radio's Russian Language service. Guogis participated in the World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) held in Stockholm July 26th-31st. Guogis compared the social sciences in Lithuania and Sweden and discussed the direction of development in social policy noting especially changes in social protection.

Žinių Radijas Radio: International Conference on Virtue and Economic Crises Opens at Mykolas Romeris University July 29th
July 29th, Lithuania's radio news station, "Žinių Radijas," announced that the 4th Annual Conference of International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry, "Virtue and Economic Crises," will begin at Mykolas Romeris University (MRU). Mykolas Romeris University Dept. of Political Science Professor Andrius Bielskis said conference participants will discuss why the global economic crisis occurred and how to avoid such crises in the future.

In the July 23rd issue of the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Žinios, Mykolas Romeris University Law Faculty Prof. and Supreme Court Judge Vytautas Piesliakas takes part in a roundtable discussion on the Statute of Limitations in criminal cases. Piesliakas is a professor of Law at Mykolas Romeris University in the Department of Criminal Law & Criminology.

Lithuanian Radio: July 16th, Lithuanian Bar Assn Chairman Papirtis Discusses the 10-year Anniversary of Lithuania's Civil Code
July 16th, Lithuanian Bar Association Chairman and MRU Assoc. Prof. Leonas Papirtis participated in the Lithuanian radio programme, "Akiračiai" discussing Lithuania's Civil Code, which was approved a decade ago on July 18th, 2000. The theme of the discussion was, "Is our Life More Civilized After Approval of the new Civil Code 10 Years Ago?" Lithuanian Supreme Ct. Chairman Gintaras Kryževičius also took part in the discussion along with Vilnius University Prof. Valentinas Mikelėnas. Mykolas Romeris University Assoc. Prof. Papirtis is a member of the Law Faculty's Civil and Commercial Law Dept.

Lietuvos Žinios: MRU Prof. Kuzmickas says Historical Battle Dates Should be Known & Celebrated
July 15th, Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Prof. Bronius Kuzmickas discussed the importance of the Battle of Žalgiris (Battle of Tannenberg), in an article in "Lietuvos Žinios." The Battle of Žalgiris was fought July 15th, 1410. This year Lithuania marked the 600th anniversary of the event. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, aligned with the Kingdom of Poland, defeated the Teutonic Knights.

Lietuvos Žinios: Lustration Commission Head Prof. Urmonas Says Fewer Cases Make It to Court
Lustration Commission Head and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) Professor Algimantas Urmonas in the July 15th issue of "Lietuvos Žinios" said he isn't very happy with the Commission's results. "Nothing's come out of the lustration process," Prof. Urmonas said in the front-page article titled, "The Commission Feels Useless." He said the Commission hasn't been taking cases to court lately. In fact, Urmonas said he doesn't believe it's still possible to actually determine which persons collaborated with the KGB. Prof. Urmonas is Head of MRU's Dept. of Administrative Law & Procedure.

Master's Degree Applicants Rush to Sign Agreements with Mykolas Romeris University, writes MRU's Public Information Officer Kęstutis Saldžiūnas in the July 13th issue of the Lithuanian daily, "Lietuvos Žinios." Applicants have until July 14th to sign agreements. MRU is one of the leading higher ed institutions known for its Master's Degree programmes. "People are studying for the knowledge they gain and not just a diploma," said MRU Admissions Commission Secretary Saulius Bugailiškis.

Mykolas Romeris University Law Faculty Assoc. Prof. Gediminas Sagatys has published an article in the July 7th issue of Verslo Žinios titled, "Joint Family Property Becomes More Secure." Sagatys, is an attorney with the Law firm of "Raidla Lejins & Norcous and specializes in Family and Insurance Law, Mediation and Public Procurement issues. He also lectures on Civil Law at MRU and is a member of the Law Faculty's Civil and Commercial Law Dept.(In the photo Sagatys is in the center)
