New foreign students’ life stage has begun before starting new academic year. The majority of ERASMUS students arrived in Lithuania on August 22, when Introductory Week has started. It was full of various events and excursions which helped new students of Mykolas Romeris university to get acquainted with our country and university, where new ERASMUS students will spend probably the best and most memorable part of students life.

The first ERASMUS Introduction week day has started from students’ arrival. All ERASMUS students with big gladness were welcomed by ESN MRU mentors, which will take care of them all their study time in Lithuania. In the evening of the first day, after exciting settling in students house, all ERASMUS students first time has met in informal environment of FABAI pub, where they had an opportunity to meet each other and relax after a long day which were full of a lot of impression.

Feeling comfortable and established in their new accommodations, the Erasmus students attended their first official meeting – Erasmus Information day, which took place in Mykolas Romeris University. The welcome speach was held by Head of Study Office (Deputy Vice-Rector) dr. Nijolė Burkšaitienė.Lateron students were acquainted with the fundamental university policies and dormitory rules. Furthermore, Coordinator of incomming students Ieva Tondrykaite explained the general conduct expectations at the university and the police officer presented the situation in Vilnius city, giving also some useful advice for the city guests. The next day, ERASMUS students had the opportunity to meet with the representatives of the faculties and, of course, to hear more about the studies. That was the end of the official part of the Introductory week, after which the exciting tours around Vilnius and other Lithuania’s cities, such as Trakai and Druskininkai, were arranged for our guests.

On Thursday, the students finally had an opportunity to see the beauty of the city centre of Vilnius – the old town. They saw the Cathedral, Gediminas castle, Presidential Palace, the Gate of Dawn and some of the churches. They also visited the Uzupis district and other interesting sites of the old Vilnius. The few-hour-long excursion with the guide was tiring, yet it left a really good first impression of the capital on the students.

Next day, after getting familiar with their new home city for the next semester – Vilnius, early in the morning two buses were waiting for ERASMUS students, with which we went to see the olde capital of Lithuania – Trakai. Here the guide introduced students with the outstanding castle of Trakai, told interesting facts about the history of Lithuania. Soon after that ERASMUS students had a possibility to have lots of fun together by sailing in the lake of Galvė with boats and aquabikes. After this experience we rushed to refill our powers with the taste the unique dish – kibinai. Finally, after great time spent together in Trakai, we came back to Vilnius and our ERASMUS students had to make a brief presentation about their home countries.

Eventually, the last but probably the most exciting and fun event of the introductory week was the excursion to Druskininkai. Here ERASMUS students spent three exciting days during which they could not only visit the most famous places but also to refill the lost energy after such an amazing and challenging welcome week. At first, after arrival and checking in the hotel, the same evening presentable event was still awaiting, during which ERASMUS students had to show their „homework“ – make a brief presentation about their home countries as much as interesting, exciting and inventive as they can imagine. Finally, the next two days were dedicated for relaxation and resting. Here our ERASMUS students had a possibility to have fun together in the aqua park of Druskininkai, test their skills and fill the body with adrenaline in adventure park or just to relax in SPA resorts.

Finally, on Monday night, the students full of excitement and good memories came back to their dormitory. That was the end of the Introductory week. On behalf of International Exchange Unit and ESN MRU Vilnius organization we hope that you had unforgettable time and wish you much more exciting moments during the whole ERASMUS semester. Good luck!
