String Quartet

The String Quartet – is yet another possibility for Mykolas Romeris University students to unveil their hidden talents.

The quartet was established in the fall of 2010 and still awaits new members who want to play.

String Quartet leader Povilas Jacunskas – is a wininer of many national and international competitions.  A member of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, string quartet „ArtVio“ and piano trio „FortVio“ member, one of the best cellists in Lithuania – with eagerness awaits those academic community members who play the violin or cello.

The String Quartet – is one of the most popular genres of music that has from old and up to now remained a symbol of the upper crust of society. This genre is noted for its wide repertoire beginning with compositions of Baroque composers and ending with the work of contemporary composers of today. A huge amount of string quarter musical renditions have come from the Classical epoch (J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven). That was the popular music of that time, that without exception, rang true only in the most blue-blooded of manors and chateaus. However, compositions that were created after the Classical epoch and are created up to now, make up the repertoire played including the works of F. Schubert, F. Mendelssohn, R. Schumann, P.I. Tchaikovski, A. Dvořák, E. Grieg, A. Schoenberg, M. Ravel, F. Bridge, B. Bartók, A. Berg, H. Villa-Lobos, B. Martinů, S. Prokofiev, D. Shostakovič, S. Barberi, P. Glass, S. Reich and works of other composers. We can also delight in the abundance of the repertoire of Lithuanian composers including J. Naujalis, M.K. Čiurlionis, E. Balsys, O. Balakauskas, J. Širvinskas, F. Latėnas, A. Šenderovas and others.
