About the Project

The main aim of the IP is to deepen and broaden professional understanding of the effectiveness of comparative interdisciplinary intercultural approaches in searching for the new ways of social policy, legal and social services in European Union. Undergraduate students and teachers will share knowledge, information and experience from different countries in the field of social policy, legal and social services provision, will discuss similarities and differences in EU social policy, legal and social services issues; by means of traditional and active learning didactics they will deepen understanding the necessity of EU further development, will search for and outline the new possible ways for EU future; will develop course materials on EU social policy, legal and social services issues for use in each of the partner’s institutions. The IP consists from four interconnected topics: Theory of Legal a nd Social Services, Practices of Legal and Social Services, Comparative Social Policy, Intercultural issues in direct relation to the IP content. Students will actively participate in lectures-theoretical inputs and seminars-discussions, will write projec ts and prepare handbook in group work, will exercise intercultural communication skills in the workshops. Students will
develop their information literacy competences by learning and communicating in Moodle ICT environment.

This IP has close connection with teaching programmes at partner institutions. There are social policy, legal and social service provision subjects and/or study programme topics in each participating partner’s curriculum. The innovative aspect of the IP is to add an extra dimension to these subjects in deepen and broaden understanding of EU harmonization issues. Moreover, teaching these subjects in regular curriculum dominates sharing of knowledge, information and experience in descriptive terms. The IP will emphasise analytical thinking, systematic analysis of the topic under study what will lead to interdisciplinary theoretically based practical solutions for EU harmonization strategy. Four different forms of learning will be used during IP. Each day will start from theoretical input about social policy, legal and social services. They will be followed by seminars-discussions on social policy, legal and social services in IP participating countries or/and other Member States. The core of group work will be project writing based on theoretical input, discussions, filed visits, students’ homework and their previous experience in the topic under study. Days will be rounded up by workshops – intercultural trainings, where students will acquire skills necessary to work in complex, changing, multicultural societies. These four forms of learning will allow keeping balance between traditional and active learning methods as well as to emphasis student-centred approach to learning. Students will be offered a programme with topics that are interconnected. Lectures and discussions on particular aspects of a country’s social policy, legal and social services will be given by lecturers from all the partners involved in IP. A deliberate choice is made to teach students in small groups and to tutor them intensively during the programme. Tutoring will focus on knowledge, skills and other competencies needed to pass. Starting point is the view that the student is responsible for his/her development and needs to show and prove that he/she is acquiring the necessary competences. Acquired competences will be evaluated through students’ engagement in discussions, group work, project writing and its presentation.

In order for students to write a project, they will conduct comparative studies on the differences and similarities of the national social policies, legal and social services in the participating states. The students will be confronted with different views on social policy and with the cultural and historical grounds that led to different social policy systems in the different EU member states. They will better understand the international aspects of their future professions because they have been able to look beyond the boundaries of their own counties.
