During June 16th Graduation Ceremonies - 149 Bachelor's Degree Diplomas Awarded
June 16th, diplomas were awarded to graduates of the University's Faculty of Politics and Management in a festive ceremony that brought together parents, relatives, siblings and graduates-swimming in a sea of flower bouquets. Faculty Dean Algirdas Monkevičius handed out the diplomas to smiling graduates. There were 149 Bachelor's degree diplomas and 8 Master's Degree diplomas that were handed out. (In the PHOTO: Dean A. ABOUT FACULTY

A modern rapidly expanding faculty of Strategic Management and Policy is the largest in Mykolas Romeris University. There are over 5,000 students in the full-time, part-time and extramural undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes in Law, Public Administration, Public Policy, Management and Business administration.

The academic staff of the department focuses on a variety of public policy and strategic management issues, examines and counsels various administrative institutions. Also, they scrutinize processes of European integration, its impact on Lithuania, global policies and other problems of new public management. These issues comprise major topics of the scientific work and scientific reports for Lithuanian and foreign conferences. The academic staff also contributes to civil servant training programs and consults various level institutions on matters of strategic planning and management. Department participates in the international and Lithuanian scientific projects, such as EU Framework Sixth and Seventh Programmes (FP6, FP), Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, EU INTERREG 4c, etc. In cooperation with Czech, Slovakian and Slovenian partners, the faculty has launched a new scientific magazine Comparative public policy.

The department has numerous social partners as well. It has signed a cooperation agreement with Bavarian University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Legal Affairs, Department of Civil Service under Lithuania’s Ministry of Interior Affairs, Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture, Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance, Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Association of Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Offices of State Guaranteed Legal Aid Services, Institute of Hygiene and other institutions.

LAW AND MANAGEMENT STUDY PROGRAMMES

Bachelor and Master study programmes in Law and Management are designed to prepare lawyers with theoretical and practical management skills and therefore able to work as administrators in public and private sectors. The study programme is unique in its scope and available only in Mykolas Romeris University. To apply for the postgraduate studies, bachelor’s degree in Law is optional. The study programme then takes 2.5 years. Law and Management study programme integrates two groups of subjects: Law and Management. Studies of Law take 70% of the total education, while management takes 30%. On completion of studies, the graduates are granted a BA or MA degree in Law. On completion of studies, the graduates may: practice as lawyers in any public or private sector; seek careers in management; combine legal and management skills in their careers.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN EUROPEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICY

The study programme is designed to prepare highly qualified experts in European neighbourhood policy able to analyze and assess political, economic and social processes in EU neighbouring states, to independently carry out research, to evaluate real situations and foresee their outcome and to develop realistic and effective strategies and recommendations on issues of European neighbourhood policy. The graduates will be able to work in public institutions or private businesses in Lithuania, EU or neighbouring states.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN PUBLIC POLICY

Programme of Public policy is oriented to the traditional aspects of policy: it‘s formation, analysis, assessment and also ability to understand and to solve concrete public policy problems. This is multidisciplinary program, focusing on public policy overall, but not only on administration and policy altogether. Specialists skilled in various spheres of public policy are welcomed for the country with their competencies in emphasizing interests of the groups of people, also process of policy formation, coordination, political decision making and policy implementation. This is very important for future public policy science and practice development in the country. Graduates can work various kinds of analytical and administrative jobs in public and private sector institutions.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN SCIENCE MANAGEMENT

The study programme is designed to prepare specialists of science management with expertise in the EU and Lithuanian policy and ability to apply their knowledge in public and private scientific institutions and enterprises. Under circumstances of programme budgeting, the graduates will have the required skills to develop projects, to submit them for project calls to various programmes and to administrate their implementation.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF ORGANISATIONS

The study programme is designed to prepare professionals of strategic management able to develop business and development strategies, make business and action plans and strategies of their implementation, to arrange process of strategic planning and develop programme assessment and control systems. Apart from basic theoretical subjects of strategic management, the study programme includes Economics, Public Administration, Sustainable Development and Finance. Depending on the sphere a graduate is going to work, there are three possible alternatives: strategic management of business organizations, public institutions or financial organisations; or focus on practical cases of small or medium businesses, public institutions or financial organizations. Graduates of strategic management will be able to work as high qualification experts in a variety of organizations.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC PROGRAMMES AND PROJECTS

The study programme is designed to prepare highly qualified project management experts able to solve specific theoretical and practical problems in a broad range of national and local institutions. The study programme focuses on development of the following skills: ability to analyze social, cultural, political and economic project environment; initiate, plan, implement and control projects developed by national and local institutions or non-governmental organizations; to manage content, timing, costs, risk and quality of projects.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN EUROPEAN UNION POLICY AND ADMINISTRATION

The study programme is designed to prepare highly qualified experts in EU policy and public administration with a comprehensive understanding of EU structure and institutions, EU regulated policy areas and EU development. The graduates are trained to work in public administration institutions in Lithuania and the European Union.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN ENVIRONMENT POLICY AND ADMINISTRATION

The study programme is designed to prepare environment professionals with expertise in management of environment protection, as well as policies and modern principles of public administration of particular environment domains (atmosphere, hydrosphere, soil, natural resources, etc.) Graduates of the programme will be able to work as various level civil servants in all environmental institutions.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMMES IN MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

The study programme is designed to prepare environment professionals with expertise in management of natural resources, particular environment protection policies (land planning, forestry economics, agriculture, etc.) and modern principles of public management. Graduates of the programme will be able to work as high level civil servants in public or private environmental, agricultural, region and land planning institutions.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN LAND MANAGEMENT POLICY

The study programme of Land Management Policy is designed to prepare specialists of land management with expertise in state policies on restitution of land rights, land planning, land exploitation and disposal. Expertise in Land Management Policy will allow the graduates to successfully deal with issues of land reform, legal regulation of exploitation of natural resources or state administration and seek careers in a variety of state, local or private institutions.

MASTER STUDY PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The study programme is designed to prepare professionals of public administration with expertise in implementation of sustainable development policy on a national, regional or local level. Policy of sustainable development is grounded upon integration of economic and social development and strategic goals of environment protection to systematically enhance the quality of life. Sustainable development might therefore be approached as meta-policy which effect upon all sectors focusing on complex intersectoral tasks and long-term state development prospects.

DOCTORAL STUDIES

Doctoral studies are designed to prepare scientists specializing in public administration. The doctoral students are actively involved in scientific and pedagogic work of the department. On graduation, the students get doctoral degrees.

STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

Association of students in Public Administration (MRU VASA) unites academic community of the Faculty, arranges meetings, debates and conferences on issues of public administration, organizes introductory summer camps for first-year students and other events. Students take part in student scientific societies arrange meetings with employers and are involved in development of study programmes. Also the University has an association of European Law students (ELSA MRU) and an International Association of Law Students (ILSA) to associate University’s students of Law and Law and Administration. A growing number of students are involved in international student exchange programmes. Over 30 subjects are taught in English to provide opportunities for student and teacher exchanges. Law and Management undergraduate study programme is also available in the form of distance learning studies.
