FINANCIAL ECONOMICS

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The financial economics study programme is designed to prepare specialists in financial economics with an analytical mindset who are able to professionally and systemically apply financial analysis and management methods in an ever changing global environment, seeking financial stability, growth of the economy and effectiveness.

Applicants must have completed secondary education and meet entrance requirements for university.

Bachelor degree candidates study general subjects:

  • Terminology and Record-Keeping,

  • Mathematical Statistics.

Students also take specialized subjects:

Internship study duration totals 400 hours.

The study program concludes with a bachelor’s thesis. The graduate is awarded a Bachelor‘s Degree in Economics.
Graduates of the Financial Economics programme can continue studies at Mykolas Romeris University in the area of financial markets and public sector economics or study in other university Economics or in social science programmes for a master’s degree.

ABOUT THE QUALIFICATION

A Bachelor‘s degree in Economics is required to qualify for employment in the country’s and separate regional private and public financial management institutions, banks, as well as for tax consultants and advisers in the private, as well as the public sector.

A person, having completed the Financial Economics study programme and acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Economics has:

  • to be able to solve practical tasks and problems in the financial management area and foresee methods of solution, 
  • to be able to effectively manage new financial instruments,
  • to be able to start one’s own business in the financial services’ sector or work in operating financial brokerage firms, economic institutions, banks, ministries, municipal institutions, investment management firms that manage investment and pension funds
  • to be able to work in consulting companies, in the departments of share capital firms responsible for raising capital or work with investors,
  • to be able to understand concrete theoretical and practical problems of financial institutions and non-financial corporations and generally the financial market, foresee methods of solution,
  • to be able to work and effectively use the opportunities presented by the international finance market,
  • to be able to apply national and international financial and customs’ legal acts in one’s work and actively seek business information,
  • to be able to engage in e-commerce,
  • to be able to apply statistical methods and statistical programme systems in economics and finance,
  • to know the place and specifics of today’s contemporary financial market integrating into a global economy and especially, into the European financial system,
  • to be able to know how to work responsibly, thoroughly, independently and quickly and to so organize one’s work so as to be able to effectively collaborate with colleagues and clients alike.

Having acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, graduates can work in the country‘s and in separate regional private and public finance management institutions, banks and as well as tax consultants and advisers in the private as well as the public sector.

LAW AND CUSTOMS ACTIVITIES

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Law and Customs program prepares customs officers, well versed in European Union (EU) and national laws, which regulate goods declaration, and customs‘ procedures.

Applicants must have completed secondary education and meet entrance requirements for the university. Students take preparatory courses in Philosophy, Logic and Methodology, Psychology, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and specialized subjects such as:

  • The Constitutional Law of Lithuania

  • Civil Procedure Law

Practical studies are divided into two stages: training and a two-month internship in customs posts or other customs‘ offices, in the State Tax Inspectorate, or in the divisions of the Financial Crime Investigation Service (FCIS). Internship study duration totals 400 hours. The study program concludes with final exams. All students are required to take one mandatory Administrative Law Administrative Procedure exam and choose one alternative subject from the following study plan list of alternative exams: Constitutional Law or Customs Law and Customs Administrative Activities.
Graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Laws degree. Graduates can continue studies in the University’s Master’s Degree programmes in Law, Management and Business Administration, Public Administration and other social science area Master’s Degree programmes.

ABOUT THE QUALIFICATION

A Bachelor of Laws degree is necessary for those who want to work as customs officers or lawyers.

Graduates of the Law and Customs Activities programme, who have acquired a Bachelor’s Degree are:

  • able to analyze, apply and interpret European Union (EU) and national legal acts, which regulate goods declaration, customs procedures and administration, 
  • analyze and evaluate duty implementation goals, their regulation functions and influence on economic processes, 
  • able to understand and analyze contemporary international trade processes and their regulation methods, apply contemporary administrative methods and new management in practice, critically analyze practical situations and be able to reach a decision independently taking into account general European Union law principles such as proportionality,
  • knowledgeable about contemporary international trade theories, know main international trade problems, know EU and national legal acts, which regulate goods declaration, customs procedures and administration,
  • know the place of customs procedures and other customs-sanctioned activities in Customs Law and in general, in customs policy, 
  • know the main international organizations dealing in the areas of international trade and customs activities, 
    know technology in the areas of roads, automobiles, air, water and railway transport and know which documents are needed for freight and cargo transport, for packing of cargo, storage and logistics principles, 
    able to work responsibly, thoroughly, independently, quickly and organize work in such a manner so as to effectively cooperate with clients and colleagues.

A Bachelor of Laws degree can be attained in universities that offer studies according to a Law and Customs Activities programme.
Non-formal and informal ways of having acquired skills to work in the legal sphere are not recognized.
Graduates of the program, who have acquired a Bachelor’s Degree, can work as customs officers in various divisions of the Lithuanian Customs department, as well as in the State Tax Inspectorate Offices, in the Financial Crime Investigation Service (FCIS), or in other legal institutions, in law, notary or bailiff offices, and in governmental institutions and in the legal departments of private companies.
