Webometrics Ranks MRU 2nd in Lithuania for Online Presence

Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) ranks 2nd in Lithuania among 45 institutions of higher learning for online presence and is in 4th place overall in Lithuania, according to academic higher education institution ranker Webometrics.

In the world rankings of more than 23,000 higher learning institutions MRU was ranked 2091. In the world rankings only Vilnius University (VU), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) were ranked higher in Lithuania.

Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions. Since 2004, every six months an independent, objective, free, open scientific exercise is conducted by the Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) evaluating the performance of universities throughout the world.

The aim of rankings is to promote academic web presence, supporting the Open Access initiatives for increasing transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge generated by the universities to the whole Society.

In order to achieve this, the publication of rankings is one of the most powerful and successful tools.

The objective is not to evaluate websites, their design or the popularity of their contents, according to the number of visitors.

The Web is key for the future of all the university missions, as it is already the most important means of communication, the future channel for off-campus distance learning, and the universal showcase for attracting talent, funding and resources.
