Social Work Student Van Tran from Vietnam Awarded Scholarship

Oct. 24th, 2016, the Senate of Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) agreed to award a 2016 Fall Semester Senate Scholarship to 4th year MRU Social Work Bachelor's Degree student Van Tran. The former Head of the MRU International Students Association (ISA) has been active on campus and is an accomplished chef known for her culinary talents, when not hitting the books. During her first year she talked with the studies portal, bachelors portal.eu, and said she really liked Lithuania and MRU. She said she found that the "MRU staff is really helpful, attentive and they are always willing to help, even with things not related to academic matters." Unlike many countries abroad, especially in Asia, Tran mentioned that she enjoyed "the quietness" of Lithuania. "You can barely see traffic jams here, although there are plenty of cars. Well, it is crowded during rush hour, but still not as much as in my country. I find that people here quite enjoy going outside," she said. "I could see parents taking their kids out for a walk in the park, musicians performing on the streets or couples walking their pets. In Vilnius, nature harmonises with modernity. One part of the city is full of commercial buildings, while the other is surrounded with parks, trees and old architecture," Tran pointed out. "I can see the sunset every day from my window. I think Lithuania has the best sunsets ever," said the Vietnamese student. Tran said she has felt challenged by the language. "It would be easier if one would speak either Russian or Lithuanian, but I speak neither of them. You can find English-speaking people only in universities and other few places, and sometimes it is hard to express my ideas because the listeners do not understand me," she said. But, overall she said she really likes Lithuania and "I love my university," she added. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a Master's Degree in the U.S.
